A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Not so mundane after all
Interesting compositions sometimes present themselves to you at the most bizarre times. We had taken the kids to the splashpad when, as luck would have it, little man needed to pee (I know, big surprise there.) Compared to the typical public washroom facilities - which are usually hideously-designed and filthy - these were in a lovingly designed building, and were stupendously clean.
So as we exited the building and headed back, our little guy commented on the bright red trim. We stopped and examined it, and agreed that the color was really nice. I thought it looked especially impressive against the yellowish brick that is a staple of century-old London architecture. So out came the camera, and the result is here.
I like the lines, the color, and the fact that it was our four-year-old son who saw the potential in the scene. The apple seems to have fallen relatively close to the tree.
Your turn: Can a bathroom be worth a closer look? If so, how?

Hello. Michele sent me.
ReplyDeleteHi, here via Michele's. I agree that children make you see things that you might otherwise miss completely. Mmm - my bathroom is definitely not worth close inspection. Best not to dwell on the state of my house generally.
ReplyDeleteI only tend to notice restrooms if they're extraordinary. Iowa has the best rest area restrooms that I've ever been in. I suppose I noticed them becase they're clean...
ReplyDeleteHere via Michele's this time :)
hello...michelle sent me.
ReplyDeleteMy 3 year old likes to check out the restrooms no matter where we are. He is very into both the paper towel dispensers - automatic or crank? and the flush method - he loves the automatics.
Just popping in to say hello. Michee sent me!
ReplyDeleteA bathroom can be worth a closer look...maybe.....that's a trick question:)
ReplyDeletehere via Michele
Hi Michele sent me
ReplyDeleteYes, it is striking in color and texture. wonderful to see someone alive to that sort of beauty.
Nice pic. Yes, for sure the bathroom is worth an extended inspection, especially before you put your bare bum on the toilet seat. But all kidding aside, I love those calendars of the old outhouses. They are quite creative.
ReplyDeleteAll things are worth a second look.
ReplyDeleteYes, a closer look - to inspect to see if it's clean enough to use LOL
ReplyDeleteHi - via Michele's merry go round ;)
BTW I *never* touch a public toilet - not even to flush - I do that with my foot or with a tissue.... I never sit on them, either. ICK... no matter how clean ;)
ReplyDeleteUseless info incase you care LOL
i love nordstroms bathrooms, they are always so pretty and clean.
ReplyDeletethat picture is great, makes me want to paint something red.
oh crap... forgot to say
ReplyDeletehello, michelle sent me. I got so caught up in bathrooms, lol
Hi, neat picture. Michele sent me!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm here from Michele's, but I come here all the time anyway. Unique bathrooms? I wouldn't know anything about that.
ReplyDeleteSeems as good a reason as any to haul the camera around! Good color, Carmi, and brave for your little guy noticing things like that. As you say, the apple falls not too far......
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me, again.
In via Michele's!
ReplyDeleteTo make your bathroom more unique, varied lightings and interesting photographs. Maybe a plaque over the WC with quotes from movies like Jurassic park where jeff Goldblum says "You'll remember to wash your hands afterwards, right?"
Hi Carmi, Michele didn't send me, I just came on my own. You and your son have a great eye!
ReplyDeleteMy baby sister use to love looking into garbage cans, until she fell into one, which I will never forget. My big brother laughed as he took my baby sister out of it, and she threw up on him, so my big brother got sick, and turned away from her, and threw up on me. I then got sick and threw up on mom, and my baby sister threw up on her to, which wasn't a good thing, because when dad came over and said who stinks, my mom threw up all over him, but mostly on top of his head since he's short. my dad got sick and turned away, but he threw up on a cop, and after we got all cleaned up, we picked him up from jail, and he smelled worse than my grandma, and that stinks!
I hope you are having a nice weekend!
Some bathrooms are only worth viewing through the Hubble Telescope.
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me.
I think a bathroom can be worth a closer look, but probably not in the way you think. I am very picky about bathrooms that aren't my own, especially when I go out. This excludes porta-potties.:(
ReplyDeleteHello, Michele sent me. I like how the red section has lines that go vertically and the brick lines go horizontally. And yes, bathrooms can be lovely, though they usually are not. I enjoy mine, I've got artwork in mine and tend to pamper myself there quire a bit.
ReplyDeleteOf course bathrooms are worth a closer look.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when that closer look requires a peek into the medicine cabinet! :)
You know, that really is cool. You have an artist's eye. Once I did an elaborate crayon sketch of a corner of my bathroom under the sink. It's still one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice shot, and how cool that your son scoped it out. I'm with franchini, though; my bathrooms definitely do not need a closer look, unless you're with a cleaning service!
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me tonight.
Hey! Here from Michele's.
ReplyDeleteCool photo. Heck yes, bathrooms are worth a closer look. We spend an awful lot of our lives in them!
Hello, Michelle sent me. Very cool blog. And it goes without sayiing that you've got a wonderful family! You must be very proud.
ReplyDeleteI'll check back later.
Carmi, I am here again, via Michele.
ReplyDeleteGet this... I am NOT here from Michele, but because I already enjoy checking out your blog! !
ReplyDeleteBathrooms run the gamut of wonderous utopias to slime=covered hellholes. I won't talk about the latter, but let's say that I will walk a mile to avoid a portapotty!
That's very cool!
ReplyDeleteI never try to take too close of a look at home these days. It's all just dust bunnies :)
ReplyDeletenow my backyard, on the other hand, is a fascnating mix of lovely photo ops and life-and-death struggles on a miniscule scale...
