When I first got into photography, I would often pop the camera onto a tripod and take pictures of flowers. In addition to offering a rich palette of color and texture, they didn't run away from me like my kids now so often do. The experience allowed me to learn the intricacies of photography, and to take my time doing so. Of course, with film, this could get expensive because I often shot roll after roll and brought home only a few really spectacular images.
Yesterday, I noticed a bouquet of flowers glowing in the midday sun at the end of our kitchen table and thought they would look nice in pictures. I didn't have a whole lot of time before I had to get back to work, but I figured a quick shoot would give me an initial taste of macro photography with the new camera. Although I was done in just a few minutes, I think a few of the images were rather interesting, and I'll post them to the blog over the next few days.
Your turn: Please look around the room where you are. Is there anything there that would be worthy of some close-up attention from your lens? Why? If you're feeling particularly inspired, I hope you'll take a picture, post it to your blog and share the link here. Isn't photography better when it's shared?
nice shot--my only problem is that I'm one of three people on the planet who doesn't own a digital camera. But using bounce lighting, photographing things in the mirror over the fireplace mantel would be nice (I'm on my laptop in the living room).

My favorite photos are those of flowers and especially macro photography! Lovely photo! Perhaps in my kitchen the coffee grinder from the 1800's would be a great photo. Hi from the Michele meet and greet and Happy Thanksgiving to you

ReplyDeleteI do love digital cameras for that reason Carmi. I used to be so miserly with film--but with digital I just snap away at almost anything. People can tell when I'm bored because if I have a camera with me, I'll just start taking macro shots of anything nearby. Just in case.
In this room, the best object to do a macro on would probably be the fine detail of the wood working on my dresser. I'd have to rig up some lighting though since it's way too reflective to use a camera flash on.

ReplyDeleteits rather dark in here now.. and i'm still getting to grips with my new camera. i was talking just 2 nights ago about my need for a tripod. all my shots these past few years seem to be action shots, of myself or the lets on the move.
i crave a little stillness at the moment.
on that note i did post some pictures that we took of my fatcats stationary arse with eyes stuck on it which are rather fun if you fancy a gander at that.. it's the second post down right now :)
Looking around the room, the only things I see that might make interesting macro shots are the cats' food and their water fountain. If one of the cats were actualy in here, they'd look mighty fine in their little kitty lounge or on top of their tower...but I may be the only one who likes kitty pictures ;)
ReplyDeleteNow, for a wide-view shot, if I could get one of them asleep on the big comfy chair in the living room, a picture taken from upstairs, looking down on him, would be view-worthy, I think. One tiny kitty alone in the room, surrounded by bookcases and big windows... hopefully that's a picture I can take soon.

Ahhhhhhh, my world is feeling a big drab right now. Perhaps the light coming through the window would do? I shot a couple rolls of film today at a cross country meet and I'll be getting them back in an hour or so. Perhaps there will be something link worthy there.

ReplyDeleteLooking around the room where I am now (at 3:18 in the morning), I see only the mess that I must clean up today. There is a flower arrangement I created for our fireplace wall; perhaps I will see what I can do with that and my simple Canon Powershot A85.
By the way, the reason I stopped by tonight was to thank you for your comment on my phone shopping; you're right about pitting one company against another. Actually, I am a master at that and I will be using that talent of mine when I am actually ready to switch. Maybe, if I get a great deal, I'll even write about it. :-)
Well, I am back... the room is lit and thinking of macro photography, I think I would focus in on a cockscomb flower and it's seed pods. A friend broght it to me from work and I've been fascinated by the sea-coral velvetly look of the flower, the deep pink color and the wonder of the thousands of tiny seeds that drop off of it. I am saving the seeds to plant my own next spring... it is just so lovely.
