Robyn Hertz has been found

Last week, I posted an entry (click here) about Robyn Hertz, a young woman from Montreal who suffers from schizophrenia and had gone missing earlier next month. Thankfully, this is a story with happy ending. A generous commenter left this URL in a comment earlier yesterday:

Just in time for the holidays, a missing 26-year-old woman from Cote St-Luc has been found safe and sound.

Montreal police say Robyn Hertz was found in Timmins, Ont. early Sunday morning, and is presently in a hospital in the area.

Robyn, who suffers from schizophrenia, ran away two weeks ago after discovering she was going to be hospitalized while doctors tested different medications on her.

A police officer recognized her when she approached him asking where she could stay, because she thought she was on vacation.

I, too, had joined the many Facebookers who continued to spread the word about Robyn and her family's need for help. The message sent yesterday morning that she was found was, indeed, a happy ending.

My thoughts on this turn to the world of social computing and how, in the worst of times, it brings out the best of hearts. Many did not understand the nature of the "event" posted when Robyn first went missing, and declined the virtual invite. When I reposted it on my profile, I specifically mentioned that nothing need be done outside of clicking "will attend"in order to spread the word and awareness of Robyn's disappearance.

But it goes to show how creatively Facebook, and the 'net in general, can be used when there is a real, dire need for people to band together. I have always believed in the power of technology to better our world; the cohesiveness of those who participated serves to validate my convictions.

Happy Holidays!

Good news for her family, indeed. I'm glad she's safe now. . . and I hope that they're able to find a cocktail of medications that will work for her.

As you mentioned, Carmi, I believe this is indeed an answer to many prayers. I hope all who prayed will now also thank God who kept her safe. It's another miracle to celebrate this month. :)

Thank goodness. I'm going to post this and a link to your blog--since I had posted about her being missing. I am so relieved for that family.
