Flu.
Four out of five members of the family, down for the count.
Fifth one about to join us.
Still, I voted. I'm sure I infected half the people at the polling station as I walked in mere minutes before closing, sweating profusely in a dark trench coat and sneakers. I even drove the three blocks to get there.
Aside from the fact that this is absolute sacrilege for me - I'm never supposed to drive anywhere that is close enough to walk - I grabbed the keys. I'm sure fellow motorists and pedestrians appreciated the compromised safety that comes with having a flu-addled driver on the road.
One of these days, I've got to dispense with the whole principles thing.
Now I'm up in the middle of the night. Back hurts too much to sleep. Brain's not working well enough to write coherently. So I thought I'd whine a little on my blog.
Illness in the modern age. Fun stuff.
Hello Michele Sent me, as per the post on her blog
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing! That's just awful! I hope you get better quickly. I have to admit, I might have skipped the voting thing with the flu. You, my friend, are a real trooper!
ReplyDeleteCarmi, I don't begrudge you driving the three blocks to vote when you have the flu. I seriously doubt your abilities were compromised that much, so the risk to others on that stretch of road was minimal.
ReplyDeleteHowever, you being out in the January elements with the flu could have proven even more disastrous. Aside from the obvious health complications (such as developing pneumonia), think about this mental picture... a guy in a trench coat, sweating profusely, walking along the streets in a bit of a daze... Trust me - your neighbors are glad you didn't walk. ;)
I hope you and your family are feeling better soon!
Feel better.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family feel alot better soon...no, the flu is no fun. And I like your roots shot!
ReplyDeleteI'll light the Elvis candle for you and send you healing thoughts.
ReplyDeletePrinciples, schminciples!
By the way, how did you feel about the outcome of the election?
I can totally feel your pain. I just got over being sick. I also feel it's necessary to vote, two thumbs up my friend. May I suggest an old family remedy for dealing with the flu.....brandy and lots of it. Sleep through the madness if you can. Drink lots and lots of water. Flush out that bug!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is so going around! Get better!
ReplyDeleteMy kids and I are there, too. No fun! I'm not "good" at being sick, so being sick and having to care for others who are sick is just not for me!
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your family are all well soon! ((hugs)) to all!
Whining is good, perhaps I should start blogging in the middle of the night since I am up now...Great that you voted! YAY DEMoCRACY!
ReplyDeleteOh ick. I'm sorry the flu found your house!! I'd send chicken soup but I think it'd be cold before it got to you.
ReplyDeleteBlogging with the flu at 2:00 am. Carmi, that's pathetic. You're supposed to watch bad TV and drink disgusting tea...with whiskey in it.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family recover quickly.
I did some political writing this last couple of days. I wonder if you are up for your take on the state of "the vote!"
ReplyDeleteJeremy
Awww, poor Carmi. I hope you and the whole family are feeling much better very soon!
ReplyDeleteUgh..you have my sympathies. Now stay the heck away from me!
ReplyDeleteAnd kudos for voting even when you felt like doody...most people wouldn't have.
I hope everyone in your household is flu-free soon! BTW, thanks for the great comment on my latest post.
ReplyDeleteOh man! I got it back in December. Didn't know we had a new year until the third. Hope you all feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteCarmi, I hope that you and your family will feel better as soon as possible. Take care and stay outof the cold if you can.
ReplyDeleteDUDE, I would have driven too! You're entitled! Good for you for still getting out and voting when you probably felt more like crawling under a rock and dying. You and the family get better soon!
ReplyDeleteYou poor guy! Your whole poor family!!! THE FLU STINKS!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are sick, Carmi, and hopee you feel better very very soon!
Whining is understable when you have a flu. Moaning is allowed too.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon! Thanks so much for visiting my site!
Feel better!! When you're sick you are allowed to drive if you aren't too medicated up. Walking would just make your illness worse.
ReplyDeleteHope the worst has passed and the family is getting back on their feet.
ReplyDeletesorry you aren't feeling well. i hope it doesn't last as long as our sickies did.
ReplyDeletesending get well vibes your way.
i leave comments all the time but they never show up :(
ReplyDeletesorry you are sick.
if it's a cold flu, i'll forgive you.
ReplyDeleteif you ran out to vote with the stomach flu...well, that's just unforgiveable. :)
Get well wishes. To the whole family
ReplyDeleteYou might be a good one to ask. Being a writer, do you think this offer/email from Penn Group is legit?

I dont know whats real and whats fake anymore. It came to me in an email, not as a comment.
I hope you feel better by the way.
feel better soon Carmi and Family!
ReplyDeleteYou poor poor thing...
ReplyDeleteI hope you and the family get better soon, or better enough to wait on you..*wink*

Hope you feel better! Try eating some crushed garlic cloves. The sooner the better. You might smell bad for awhile, but I swear by the stuff.
ReplyDeleteCarmi: For someone as positive in making a real contribution to the world instead of just taking up space, it must be hard to be hit with this Flu. Driving was a sound decision. That you voted in this condition speaks volumes of your passion for life! Get Well Soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteWow, I have a website as well but I can’t write as well as you do. Very good stuff.
