Pretty in pink

Pink shoes, poolside
Deerfield Beach, Florida, January 2007

I went flip-flop shopping with my wife. She had been wanting a pair to wear to the beach and the pool, and kept forgetting to pick them up because every time we were in a store, we were so busy making sure the kids got everything they needed.

That's the mantra of the modern family vacation: all's well as long as the kids are happy.

But we eventually found ourselves alone in a store, and I found myself deciding between a black pair and a pink pair. She trusts me that way.

The pink struck me as happier and bouncier. I liked how the color jumped out at me and said hello. Although the black ones were likely the more logical, sober choice because they supposedly matched up with more things, I kept leaning toward the pink because they were so much kinder to my emotional side.

These wouldn't have been so much fun to shoot poolside had they been black. And she wouldn't wiggle her toes as she does if she had bought the other pair.

Your turn: Do you help your significant other go shoe shopping? Is it fun?

  2. I love those flip flops! Actually, I love all flip flops, but that's another obsession. Yes, I go shoe shopping with hubby all the time. I usually end up being the tiebreaker when he's found several he likes. He shops with me as well, and he's got pretty darn good taste when it comes to picking out for me!

    Here from Michele's this morning

  7. David: done. Thanks for the prompt re the spam (splog?) I waffled both ways before quickly approving it. Maybe part of me wanted to learn more about Star Wars trivia.

    Or not...

  8. We are going to Saint Martin in a few weeks and he likes being there for swimsuit buying but this year I don't think he is going to get to go with me.

Love those shoes! I need those for the trip.

  9. I love the turquoise water and the flamingo pink flip flops...very nice!

My husband has a thing for shoes...I love shopping with him and I am usually the tie-breaker for wahtever he is considering. And I am finding that when he really wants a pair of shoes (or anything else)...I get something too! :)

  10. No significant other currently, but I think I might have made the same choice.

Just as an aside, if you had called the flip-flops "thongs," as they are referred to in some locales, you would probably generate a few more hits.

I did a little experiment not too long ago. I found that this rumor had some truth to it: Thong is one of the most popular search terms. I don't believe that they are looking for shoes, however.

  11. As a matter of fact, I do go shoe shopping with my wife and often make suggestions about which ones would be just right for her. I guess my taste is pretty decent and I surely know what she likes because the last time we were out, I picked out both pair that she ended up purchasing.

And pink is definitely the better choice! Such a fun, playful color!

  12. Since I'm single, Carmi I can't say I've even gone flip-flop shopping with a girlfriend. But I agree with your comments! Fun colors have a definite positive effect on our mood! Good Choice! And very Deerfield Beach!!! Cool!

  13. Don't let Colleen see those She'd come up there and take them away from Morah Mommy!!

I don't want mr. kenju along on a shoe-shopping trip because he is way too impatient. I don't help him either, unless he asks for me to accompany him. Most of the time I have to push him to buy shoes, whereas I need no reason to go shoe-shopping! LOL

  15. Love your pics Carmi. This one especially is quite a contrast to what I'm seeing outside my window today -- gray sky, wet snow, and freezing rain!

  16. I used to like shoe shopping, but all the good nutrition we gave our kids made their feet grow, and now the smallest size you can find is too big for me. But if I could find a pair that fit, I would love the pink ones! Here from michele.

  17. Isn't that just a stunning picture, literally as well as figuratively...

I'm getting into pink in my old age - preferably with purple :-)

In answer to your question, I don't go shopping with MB, we get bored far too easily....

  18. You bet I help him shop for shoes... The wife always helps, don't they?

I love the pink flip-flops. If you were buying hundred dollar shoes for "real life", then you would need to consider the shoes funtionality and coordination. But this is vacation and florida... pink was the only choice, of course!

  20. Those flip flops are so cute!

Yes I do! I do help my husband shop for shoes. I'm usually the one who pushes him to get the more expensive but sturdier pair, he's the one who wants to get a pair that's more all-around. We always come to a good compromise for his feet.

I definitely think you were right to go with the pink. Black doesn't say "vacation" whereas pink just screams it out!

I've never once in my life gone shoe shopping with any woman. Not mother, wife, girlfriend or even "just friend". It's just never happened. You're very brave to do so, Carmi. I just don't have the patience.

  22. I've seen that beautiful wife of yours, and she deserves a pair of pretty, sparkly pink flip-flops :) I know they looked cute on her!
My hubby hasn't ever bought shoes...my feet aren't that kind of feet...lol :)

  23. My significant other would have to be my daughter and no, I no longer have the "aura of knowledge" around me to pick out clothes of any kind or shoes. Flip-flops are her staple footwear for all but the coldest days and that means below zero. She would pick the somber black ones.... they would fade onto the bottom of her foot and the stain would stay until the layers of skin wore off. I would go for the pink ones... that row of sequins on the straps is just too enticing. They really pop against the sparkling aqua background of the water.

  24. I love whimsical shoes... stand alone shoes... they don't need to match clothes. Good choice!

  25. i love these pink flip flops. of course i am all about the pink but still... they do just look friendlier than black.

  27. Now these are what "I" call.....GIRLY shoes! Very feminine and a perfect choice for your wife.
And no....I'm afraid I'm a solitary shopper when it comes to shoes. Clothes, hubby gets a vote, but not my shoes....lol
