About this photo: It's round. So is every other photo we've been sharing this week as part of our latest Thematic Photographic theme. If you're a WW fan, I hope you'll click here and check this out, too...it adds an interesting twist to the usual photo meme.Sometimes, you find the neatest things in the garden. My lovely wife happened across this critter while weeding out front, and after the kids oohed and aahed over the little critter, we decided some pictures were in order to remember the moment.
On the surface, it's a silly little snail with an obvious affinity for greenery. In the overall scheme of things, it's fairly trivial and almost always forgettable. Yet as I listened to our youngest son's voice buzz excitedly about a real snail in his garden, and as I watched our daughter lean in and provide a play-by-play as the snail wrapped itself around a leaf, I figured it was anything but trivial to them.
So out came the camera. Judging by the funny looks I got from passers-by, I know they were wondering why a grown man was creeping around his lawn on his knees. But it made the little folks happy, and until the bumble bees came out and scared them back inside the house - a story for another day - it reminded me yet again why being part of a family like ours is such a privilege.

ReplyDeleteI love this shot of the snail. I got one in my archives too. "Snail Stare" The park ranger stopped and asked me what I was taking a picture at. ( I was squatting by the grasses, hehehe) So, a fellow photographer won't be surprised you were acting 'wierd' while holding a camera. :)

Finding snails was always one of the highlights of gardening with my grandfather. I'm the type of adult who can ooh and aah over a snail with the children, or even without the children. :-)

ReplyDeleteA tiny snail lives with us. He's been here since last summer. My daughter feared we'd run out of grass for him before spring came but finally it did and off she went this weekend to fill her little friend's tub with fresh greenery.

I've been getting them by the hundreds if not thousands in my garden. My grown son thinks they are so cute,(they are) and we hate to kill anything so tried relocating. I put different colored dots of puff paint on the shells and then took them to five different locations each about 300 feet from my garden. Then I relocated too (temporarily) LOL so haven't been home yet to see if any came back or not.

Last summer I remember my hubby jumping up and down and dancing like an idiot to make my one year old son, who was sitting in the car laugh....
I think our neighbors are finally adjusting...

I'm not overly fond of creepy crawly things but I was totally fascinated when I saw Sammy Snail eating in our garden. I'm glad my enthusiasm rubbed off on the kids and you.
