Stay Puft Marshmallow Man

The marshmallow is another confection that I just don't get. It's too sweet, too artificial, too nausea-inducing when you consume too many. Yet I've always loved marshmallows for their not-found-in-nature texture.

As a contrast to the bold colors of my last posted picture, this one, with its monochromatic tribute to the color white, couldn't be more different.

Your turn: What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the simple marshmallow? What memories does this most processed of foods conjure up?

  2. I HATE marshmallows! I hate that they are an addition to rocky road Ic cream, and ruin a perfectly delicious chocate and nut mix.

  4. Hello, Michele sent me.

But other than that, I see no reason why marshmallows and pork chops can't be combined.

    Then again, I'm a visionary.

  8. campfires and Ghostbusters! You burn on the campfire pull off the black eat it and repeat. Other than that I can't stand marshmallows....oh except for the little Lucky Charms things...are they actually marshmellows?

  9. Michele sent me to you instead of Dena. She's so hard to predict!

I'm a sucker for color, Carmi so I vote soda cans but the marshmellows are very nice also.

Like you, I don't like the taste of marshmellows but I loved Mallo Cups candy when I was a kid. As far as I know they've not made them in decades. The candy inside was some kind of marshmellow based candy.

  10. Marshmallows alone are pretty nasty, but the PERFECT additon to most things they're in. First and foremost - candied yams. What would they be without a layer of marshmallows on top? And how did anyone think to add marshmallows to a vegetable to begin with?!
Rocky Road ice cream. Enough said.
Ambrosia salad would not be the same without marshmallows.
But yes, if a marshmallow has to stand alone - the only acceptable possibility is a roasted one! :)
Wow, this gave me a craving.

  11. Here via Michele's because you might have gotten skipped!

Marshmallows...hmmm, love 'em in smores and hot chocolate, but I've never liked eating them alone much. Too gooey I guess. I am not a gooey kind of person!

  12. I only like 'em when slightly charred over a flame and bubbly. Love s'mores, but that's about it, as far as marshmallows go. The fact that Martha Stewart and other domestic divas make marshmallows homemade is beyond me. Seems like such a waste of time. But I've never tried them--maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

  19. Hiya Carmi!

I think of ghost gum and using butter to get the marshmallows out of my youngest sister's hair. (It wasn't me)

  20. We have a cool fire pit on our brick patio and like to sit around and roast marshmellows over it.

Otherwise, I don't like 'em either.

Wait, plunking little marshmellows in hot chocolate is nice, too. :)

  21. First thing that comes to my mind? The day we got our first microwave. I was only 14 and my normally very stoic father had a ball for 45 minutes nuking marshmallows in the 'wave and watching them puff up. It still makes me giggle. The next thing I think of is hot cocoa - which I will need soon.
