After the rain falls

Droplets
Toronto, ON, June 2009

I ended the year much like I started it, namely spending entirely too much time staring too closely at trivial, forgettable things. So as I continue to share photos of the year that was - you can, too...just point your mouse this way - I thought it would be entirely appropriate to grab one of my favorites from midyear.

I'll never get tired of the limitless ways water can make a permanent impression on us. For 2010, I guess I have to get better at remembering to capture it before it evaporates into vapor and starts the cycle all over again. Timing, after all, is everything in this life thing.

Your turn: What other things that disappear quickly did you remember in 2009?

I'll miss my youngest (and final) grandson changing from a toddler into a little boy. I loved the experience of having babies in the family! 'And then there were none'.

That photo is extraordinary, it has so much information in it. I like your style. In response to the question, I think that I realize in 2009, maybe, how small creatures want to live. I'm a tree-surgeon and from time to time I have found myself rescuing small insects and such. A caterpillar comes to mind. It was such an amazing looking fellow that I wish I had taken a picture of it. I removed it from a fallen limb and transported it to a neighboring elm tree. I saved its life and I wonder what became of it.

Oh there are many shots I wish I'd been able to take in 2009, and more than a few I look at now and wonder what I was thinking. This is the way of things.

I hope that 2010 brings with it much joy for you and yours Carmi. Joy in geometric proportion to the sadness that 2009 delivered.

Looking back at 2009, these fine machines had the ability to disappear over the horizon in a blink. Fortunately for me, they didn't... at least not until I was able to grab a shot or two.

I love this image. I took a photo of the inside of my windshield after a rain, while my kids sat in the back of the minivan chatting happily over their icecream cones. I remember it vividly. It didn't last long, but it was precious.
