Sunrise, sunset

Saying goodbye to one, hoping for another

It’s easy to stare wistfully at the glowing horizon after sunset and think tomorrow’s another day.

And while the planet will indeed spin around to greet the sun once more, those of us on its surface are never guaranteed a seat at the show.

I’m reminded of that every time I stand in a place like this. We aren’t given an infinite number of these moments. We aren’t immortal.

I have no answer to this universal truth, no way of snagging more sunsets, for myself, for anyone else. No words that can make life less finite.

So we remember the ones we’ve been given. We reach out to those who matter. If only to make each sunset, each day, that much more worthy of the fact that we were gifted it in the first place.
