Mixed signals

I spotted this while walking to work a couple of weeks ago and couldn't not take a picture of it. I know there's meaning in it, but I can't, for the life of me, figure it out. Any thoughts? (Yes, feel free to be wildly creative...it's been a depressing few weeks, as evidenced by the sad arc of recent blog posts, so anything you can do to turn this melancholy into something brighter would be welcome indeed.)

  1. OK, getting deeply philosophical here ...

Life can be confusing and contradictory, and it's up to you whether you carry on or let the conflict stop you in your tracks. Some people will see encouragement in the brilliance of the green light, and move ahead. Others will be cowed by the sullen red glow, and stop, waiting for someone else to change the situation.

  2. You are the Master of your own ship. Both of those lights are lit, which will you choose, the decision is yours. But sitting in your (STUFF) will only lead you to look and start to smell like it, if you get my drift. So how long are you gonna sit there and be melancholy??
Don't let the Winter chill get you down.
Time to get out and do something special. Writing is good too you know.

  3. Damn train switcher is drunk again. Look both ways before crossing the tracks. Sometimes a light is just a light. :-)

    Great picture though!

  4. I have no idea what in the world that could possibly be saying. Are they supposed to make their own decision or something?

  6. On the railroad tracks of life, even when someone is telling you to stop, there's always a way and a reason to just GO...

  7. Wish I had something witty to say. Although Terry's answer got a chuckle out of me. If you want brightening - go to my blog. I wanted something bright but it's starting to feel blinding. Should brighten your day though. :-)

  8. The tracks represent our journey in life. Solitary, long, and almost endless.

I see the green light as an encouragement. Although it is cold and grey where you currently are, the way ahead is clear, and safe travel..

It pushes you to move forward, to keep on going out of the winter places of snow and ice gray and onto the fields of green.. The light beckons, and reasures that it is time to move on..

    Just my thoughts... Nice picture...

  11. I would say that this is a rule 281. "Proceed at Limited Speed until entire train clears interlocking limits or turnouts, then proceed at Normal Speed. In CSS tenritory with fixed automatic block signals trains not equipped with operative cab signals must approach the next signal at Limited Speed." In other words keep moving just don't get in a big hurry.

  14. I suppose the equivalent of a red AND green light would be an amber "caution" light. Which in my town means GO REALLY FAST.
