Return to the beach

Happy weekend, everyone. The weather continues to be ungodly-hot here, so I thought a neat way of thanking you all for your excellent cooldown suggestions would be to post a new picture.

This is one of a series I took at Deerfield Beach, Florida, last December. The transient nature of the weather that day - set against the already unthinkable enormity of the ocean - reminded me how small and insignificant I felt as I stood there and tripped the shutter.

Strangely, that didn't bother me. I felt seriously at peace. I hope you do, too, after seeing this image.

Your turn: The first three words that come to mind as you see this are...

Wow, what a beautiful photo. Michele didn't send me this time - just poking around a bit! It is supposed to be extremely in Boston today, too. Thank god my apartment has central air! Best of luck keeping cool.

  12. The first three words? God is in... the first three words of "God is in his heaven, and all is right with the world."

Good luck staying cool. I suggest applying a very cold beverage container (can of soda, bottle of beer) to the back of the neck and inside of the wrists. Then drink the contents.

  21. Peaceful, Relaxing, Blue-est!

OK, maybe blue-est isn't really a word, but that picture reminds me of bluer-than-blue. That would have used up all three words! Carmi, face it, 3 words just aren't enough... at least for me!

Michele sent me, and I'm glad she did. Looks like we share lots of the same blog buddies. Come on over when you get a chance. I'll be back soon!

  26. Really nice...thanks. I'm putting our local newsletter together today and was looking for any summer poems I had to fill in. I could only find one. I guess I don't write much poetry in summer! Too hot to think straight? Michele told me to say hi.

  44. Tammy: that is indeed composed and taken by me. My wife and I had gone to the beach while on vacation in Florida. Her parents were watching our kids, and we decided to head to the beach despite the threatening weather. The wind was strong, and the skies alternated between dark clouds and brilliant sun.

Ultimately, the gray and the wind won out. But not before we had a lovely walk to the pier, and had captured a whole slew of memorable photos.

I will very occasionally run a picture from another source. But the vast majority of photos on my site are indeed mine. I post them because I love sharing the story behind the picture. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
