Weird search engine fun

Like most folks who maintain a web log, I like to track the statistics to see how many people visit me, and how they get here.

Like most stats services, mine provides the URL of the referring site: the last page the visitor was on before clicking on the link to my blog. So if someone found me using a search engine, I know what search terms were used, and how my page ranked.

So I'm not sure what's more disturbing:
  1. The search terms used by this one particular visitor this evening;
  2. Or the fact that my site ranked 8th for that search string from the MSN Search site.
Here's the string: photos of man caught making love to wife's friend

Ew.

The Internet never ceases to amaze - and sicken - me.

Your turn: What's the strangest search term that you've ever found in your own stats reporting?

  1. "Rabbit nuts."

I would have liked to have emailed the guy to tell him this rabbit doesn't have any...

  2. I don't know that my stat counter provides that option... what stat counter do you use Carmi? I think I'll find one that does offer such an entertaining procrastination option. :o)

  3. I came up in one search for "Mother son sex." I don't want to know what sicko was looking for that.

And about once a week I come up under "mommy sucks" and "mommy diapers" I have no idea...there are some folks with major mental issues in this world

  4. Yaeli: I use Sitemeter (www.sitemeter.com). It offers paid and free services. As you've likely guessed, I'm too cheap to pay for the upgrade. Maybe when I (eventually) move the blog to my own domain.

It's pretty easy to set up and add the code to your blogger template. Once you do, the "By Referrals" link on the reports page will point you toward all the referring pages to your blog.

My stats page is here if you want to take a closer look:

  9. I've had some strange ones that's for sure, but the one that baffles me continually is my own url. If you know my url, why not just type it in the address bar, why put the complete url in a google search only THEN to click on my page? I get this A LOT!
Someone please give me a clue!

  10. Now I know a new blog thing to try, following your instructions. I have not listed my blog, though, and use no tags... Plus blog.de doesn't allow to add goodies to the individual templates. But it is always interesting to hear about these things. Thanks.
