A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Frozen
Perspective is a wonderful thing, especially as it applies to issues of temperature.
Within the general environment, a below-zero temperature is often perceived as miserable. We pull on extra sweaters, thick coats and as much wool as we can find. Then we gripe about it to ourselves as we leave the house and share it with friends and colleagues throughout the day.
Yet we willingly open the freezers at the supermarket and pull out oversize tubs of ice cream. We smile while doing so despite the fact that said tubs of ice cream more often than not numb the tips of our fingers before we drop them into the cart and quickly head for the checkout lane. Can't let it melt, after all.
I find myself thinking of ice cream as I scan the snowy scene around my house. It puts the whole frozen thing into its proper perspective and reminds me that extreme cold isn't always the depression-driver it's cut out to be.
Your turn: What brings you comfort when the temperature dips?

Growing up in NS it was old fashioned wood stoves. It was always nice coming inside after being out in the freezing cold and having a solid wall of heat hit you. Happy New year Carmi!
ReplyDeleteapple pie spiced cider, caramel macchiato, curl up by a warm fire with a good book
ReplyDeleteHomemade vegetable soup, hot chocolate, and two warm kitties on my lap (if they're not fighting...)
ReplyDeletewell, our dip is 55 degrees. doesn't get much colder than that here.
ReplyDeletebut i love coffee and a muffin in front of the fireplace. With the front door open so the house doesn't get too hot.
When it's cold and snowy, we like pull our boy around the backyard in the sled, hang out in our den and watch movies, eat homemade soup. . .I'm getting ready to move to a town that'll see little if any snow. I'm going to miss it! But at least I'll have the beach.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Waterford woodstove in our big living room area, I love to sit by it with a throw over me and read a good book late at night.
