A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Droplets. Frozen.
Do you ever wonder what happens to images of water when they're frozen by a fast shutter speed and a flash?
So did I. So I (carefully) played in the shower and conjured up this image. Click on the picture to zoom in.
Something tells me my lenses and I will be spending more time around moving water in the near future.

Nice image. Try water dropping into a bowl, for the ripple effect. Use a fast shutter speed. Works great. Michele sent me.
ReplyDeletethat's an awesome shot! here from where else... michele's. :)
ReplyDeleteOr you can catch a single droplet on it's way down. They have many differents shapes. Cool picture.
ReplyDeleteHere from Michele.
"Burst shot" mode is good for this sort of thing, if your camera supports it, and there's enough light available.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the polls :-)
That is so neat - I love the diamond-like look to some of the droplets
ReplyDeleteReminiscent of the effect that occurs when film makers slow down the shutter speed.

oh i have many moving water images, love them. Sprinklers are fun.
ReplyDeleteWater is one of the greatest photo subjects I think. Whether the glistening waters of a lake or a river tumbling or droplets as you have. It is hard to get that just right and you have done a great job.
ReplyDeleteUhh, Carmi, I usually am right with you, but I fail to see the point in this one. LOL. Here from Michele's this time.
ReplyDeletelol when you said you were playing in the shower i wasn't sure what to expect! haha OH.. wait you were taking pictures of water, that is totally not dirty. sorry, i tend to take things to the gutter. :)
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me, Carmi.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a new digital camera via the net last night. It's not a real good one, just something to use until I get a good one. But I think I'll be playing with it like you did with the water droplets. The neatest thing for me about your picture here is that you can see the reflection of the flash on some of the droplets but not nearly all of them--indicating that they're not uniform at all. Great picture, Carmi.
Beautiful photo, as always Carmi. The simplest things become fascinating through the eye of an artist...and THAT you are, with words and with pictures!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Sunday Carmi...
Michele sent me to you today!
My husband loves to shoot waterfalls. Depending on the speed at which their shot, sometimes, you see the detail of drops, other times, it looks more like milk flowing down through rocks. I like this photo, Carmi! Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteWeird picture there, Carmi! Well done!
ReplyDeleteHere from Michelle.
I'm back via Michele.
ReplyDeleteHas there been a Canadian Idol yet?
Here again from Michele. I hadn't noticed the refraction of the light into colors the first time around. Like flowing drops of sparkling diamonds. Wish diamonds came out of the showerhead each morning, don't you?
ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT photo! I always wanted to be a photographer but I never had that artistic eye. I still take tons and tons of photos..mostly of my kids. :)

I totally agree with you about Paula.
You certainly did capture a moment frozen in time, didn't you? That's a fabulous picture. Michele sent me today
ReplyDeleteYou have GREAT talent with a camera! Your pictures tell stories and I like that...of course, this story about a camera in the shower...well...LOL!
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me, as you know!
Beautiful shot! The droplets look like crystal beads.

Niiiice....what kind of camera are you using? Point & Shoot, Digital SLR? I've got a really good P&S digital but I'm not sure I could get that photo. And P&S just isn't that good when you're trying to take pictures of cats...
ReplyDeleteHere via Michele's this time :)
Camera in the shower? Hmmmmm. There are so many things to say about this, but I'll simply say that the pic is interesting, but I think you can do better. Here via Michele doing the right thing and leaving comments, as always.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Carmi. Here via Michele this time around.
ReplyDeleteWater is one of my most favorite things to take pictures of. I did a project for the house that was all man-made water features (no fountains that spit up in the air!). I like features that shape the water. Can't wait to see what else you come up with!
ReplyDeleteOh, and kids NEED a dog! :-)
cool. you can definitely see the angle of the rain fall when stopping time with your camera.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is magical.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've found another genre to explore. Your obession with your camera makes me smile. I always enjoy looking at the results.
VERY cool! you are a great photographer!
