Curved atrium

Let there be light
Seattle, WA, May 2006

I look up a lot. I think most folks spend so much time staring down or immediately ahead that they miss a whole lot of interesting stuff going on just above their heads.

I took this one at the base of Seattle's Space Needle as I wandered around the gift shop. It struck me as a particularly cheery place, with the kind of view that, while not as overtly spectacular as the ones from the top of the structure, was memorable in its own way.

As I squeezed the shutter, I smiled to myself as I realized that everyone would be taking pictures from the top, but only I would be taking this particular scene home. Sometimes, it's comforting to be contrarian.

Your turn: You're different. How?

One more thing: I did take a picture from up top. Click here to see it.

  1. I remember seeing the photo from the top when you posted it, Carmi, but I like the one from below better, since it is unique of that particular place. As you say, not many people photograph from that angle. (Just you and Anna)

  2. Carmi, you do have a wonderful eye for how the lens is going to see lines....

  3. I always look down. I find more
money that way. I like looking
up too, it's just that it seems
I miss everything if I do.

  4. "You're different. How?"
Like the views in these photos, the inside view of me, shows that I am complex; the outside view of me, shows I am beautiful.

  5. I'm different in that I'm deaf, and have finally not only made peace with it, but have become proud that it's part of who I am :)

  6. Hi Carmi, thanks for dropping by my post. I really like this angle and the challenge to look up. i often take "different" pictures and others say why or aren't particularly impressed but I post them anyway because they speek to me. Photography or writing for that matter are very personal things.

  7. This is a great perspective. There was a theme on one of the collaborative sites a while back called "look up". It was interesting to see the interpretations.

Thanks for visiting my blog and for the lovely comment.

  9. Different defines who I am. Believe me, sometimes, I wish I could conform. But the rest of the time, I know that I've blazed trails before that others will follow. The big one'll happen.

  10. different angles are always interesting - I like looking up but then I tend to fall down pot holes too!

Everyone's different - everyone's unique.... guess you'd have to get to know me to find out how.... :)
    Have a lovely weekend, Katie

  11. How am I different? So many ways there is no time to count.....

suffice it to say, there is no one else quite like me - which is probably a relief!

Michele sent me to thank you for the note you wrote to Santa, you good little Jewish boy, you! :-)

  12. What a cool upshot! It has balance too.

I'm told I see the subtle nuances that most people don't see, both in objects and in people; and I also ask the questions most folks wouldn't think to ask. I guess that's what gets me run out of the herd, lol!

Thanks for your nice comment. I am feeling much less "blue" today. Hope you are out from under that bad moon as well :)

  14. Carmi, I love this - it's sort of mind-bending, and almost abstract.

(Every time I've visited you via the M&G this weekend, I've had a fresh mug of cocoa...just saying.)

How am I different? I read the classics, trendy chick-lit, and genre fiction with equal admiration for all.

  15. I really like this shot. Again, very graphic and the structure looks really interesting. As for different... I couldn't say how specifically, but I was raised not to go by what other people think and to listen to my own voice instead. That makes for all sorts of *interesting* situations, both good and bad. Michele sent me today.

  17. What a gorgeous shot! And a great reminder for us to look up now and again, so we don't miss something truly beautiful. :)
