Ever notice the linear-meets-curved pattern in a bottle of bottled water? I had never paid much attention to these mundane icons of modern-day life until once recent afternoon when, lacking anything else to do in that particular minute, it dawned on me that these things looked sort of interesting.
At least I thought they did.
Your turn: Do they? What other packaging might be worth a picture?

ReplyDeletehow about those little jelly jars. it's seville orange season, i always want to buy them and make that marmalade. not to eat it though, cuz i don't like marmalade, but just to have those little jars sitting on shelf, just the thing to bring a little sunshine on a snowy day.
what could i suggest that you may have over there? my brain activity is not functioning today like any other 'normal' work day - seemingly because this is not your typical any other 'normal' work day! Perhaps odd bottles like Smirnoff Twisted *there is another one thats more twisted i think?*

I haven't been around much lately but I have to say, I am loving your "eye" -- you have some wonderful photos here and most I would never have thought to take (ie the water bottle) but they certainly have an effect don't they. Great job!!!

I have a thing for bubble wrap - oh sure, we all like to pop it, but looking through it is sort of cool - I like the textures.
ReplyDeleteUncommonGoods (uncommongoods.com) packages their gift-wrapped items in this lovely blue crinkled strips. If you shot the undisturbed pile, it would be all these angles and shadows, creating different shades of blue.

ReplyDeleteNow put a couple of colored lights behind them...say, green behind one and blue behind another...and reshoot. Angle the lights such that the color blends together where the two bottles meet in the middle. Now you've got an underwater playground!

ReplyDeleteI think the view from inside the spray-on butter bottle would be interesting, but I don't see it happening unless it goes in for a colonoscopy.
well, not the packaging so much as a new package... I would like to see a box of 120 crayons, brand new and untouched, opened and then photographed close up from straight on and straight down. I think all those colors with the sharp edges and that slightly dusty-waxy effect of brand new colors would make very good photography. Especially with the right equipment. So, have I inspired you to go out and spend 3.50? Let me know!

ReplyDeleteI know the same fellow who is willing to take a shot from the floor of an airliner's aisle filled with passengers isn't too shy to take his camera to the grocery store :)
Having worked in 'packaging', I am always amazed at new design concepts to keep things safe, protected, usable, and attractive.
ReplyDeleteSome in-box-fillers and bubble-type wraps might look intriguing under your magnified lens ...
