A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Iced dog
Woof?
London, ON, April 2007 [Click to embiggen]
The diversity of sights right outside our front door seems to have no limit. After an unseasonably cold and wet snap in April left much of the landscape a wintry mess, I closed my ears to the inevitable complaining and looked for the opportunity in it.
I found it under the little mini-roof that covers our porch. The eavestrough that channels the water often results in huge and intricate icicles (see here, here , here, here, and here for examples.) When the icicles start to melt, they create all sorts of fun on the bushes below.
So I poked my lens out the door and grabbed a few ethereal frames of an otherworldly scene that was gone by lunch. There's that ephemeral thing again.
Your turn: I'm thinking it looks like a dog's head. What do you think it looks like?

Really? You see a dog head there? I see a snail, complete with shell and antenna.
ReplyDeleteHi Carmi,
ReplyDeleteI thought your new dog might like this food that I mentioned on my blog! ;)
Indy
Michele sent me over to observe ice and cold and shiver a bit.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the dog there, Carmi, though I did try! The best I can do is a thumb's down fist. The projection on the far right is the thumb with the cloudy part being the thumbnail. The middle part of the ice is the knuckles. The theme here is an ice sculpture of a Roman ruler condemming a snowman to certain death! (maybe by means of a sunny day)
Very cool photo.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a mole sticking his head out of the ground.
Take Care
Michael
I see a swan, ducking its head under a wing, splashing water at its tail. Amazing how we all see different things, isn't it?
ReplyDeletelol. I have such ride eyes (rubbing my eye sockets)
ReplyDeleteI don't see the dog either...but then again, it is hard for me to even think about ice...it is supposed to be 90 degrees here today!!
ReplyDeletehappy friday
Hi Carmi, Michele says hi, as do I!
ReplyDeleteI can see how the icicle is reminiscent of a dog, but I also see something else.
Now don't laugh, but it reminds me of a gloved cartoon hand reaching out. I know it's odd, but if you've ever been to a Canucks hockey game in Vancouver, they have these clappig hands on the Jumbotron...
Have a great weekend!
It looks like a little Dachshund!
ReplyDeleteYou had unseasonably cold weather while here in the UK in April we had unseasonably warm weather. This unseasonable thing seems to be very widespread!
Michele sent me to admire your great pic this time :)
manatee-head ..thats what was my first reaction!!!!
ReplyDeleteI see a dog. Amazing photo. Ice still?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a dog's head on the right and a kidney where the left ear should be....LOL!
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me this time.
Looks more like a rat's head to me... and it's foaming at the mouth. Quick! Get a way before it bites you!!!
ReplyDeleteI see a fist with thumb sticking out :)
ReplyDeleteI too see a dog, but I also see a beaver, a seal, organs, I love art :)
ReplyDeleteOfficially here from Michele's. So we're playing the cloud game in ice, huh?
ReplyDeleteI see a duck.
But I also have a migraine, so take it for what it's worth.
Hey Carmi,
ReplyDeleteI see clear dog turds, lol. Honestly, that was my very first thought. I know, there's something seriously wrong with me. Slap me, go ahead.
But on a less messy note *grin* I see a seal cuddling a branch and the baby trying to climb on her back.
I shudder to think what Freud would think of my interpretations. lol
Hey, I read you're on your way to China soon - good luck and bring back some awesome pictures.
*pause*
Well, that was a stupid thing to say. *grin*
The first think I thought was "rabbit"...! I LOVE what Icicles do as they ,elt and refreeze, etc..the natural happenings og frozen water are simply amazing! I Love ALL of these pics, Carmi...!
ReplyDeleteChina! WOW! Fantastic...I can't wait to see the pictures you take there...Do stop by when you have time while you are on the other side of the planet...And have a safe safe trip. I'm sure it is work related, but i hope your wife can go with you...!
my first thought, before I read yours was that it reminded me of a jelly fish or a sea creature.......
ReplyDeletegreat shot.
I thought it was a jelly fish. In China?
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I'm with you, it's a dog.
ReplyDeleteHere from Michele's tonite
Btw... I saw something about China, too...
Thats just a weird picture lol
