Iced dog

Woof?
London, ON, April 2007 [Click to embiggen]

The diversity of sights right outside our front door seems to have no limit. After an unseasonably cold and wet snap in April left much of the landscape a wintry mess, I closed my ears to the inevitable complaining and looked for the opportunity in it.

I found it under the little mini-roof that covers our porch. The eavestrough that channels the water often results in huge and intricate icicles (see here, here , here, here, and here for examples.) When the icicles start to melt, they create all sorts of fun on the bushes below.

So I poked my lens out the door and grabbed a few ethereal frames of an otherworldly scene that was gone by lunch. There's that ephemeral thing again.

Your turn: I'm thinking it looks like a dog's head. What do you think it looks like?

  1. Really? You see a dog head there? I see a snail, complete with shell and antenna.

  2. Hi Carmi,
I thought your new dog might like this food that I mentioned on my blog! ;)

  3. Michele sent me over to observe ice and cold and shiver a bit.

I don't see the dog there, Carmi, though I did try! The best I can do is a thumb's down fist. The projection on the far right is the thumb with the cloudy part being the thumbnail. The middle part of the ice is the knuckles. The theme here is an ice sculpture of a Roman ruler condemming a snowman to certain death! (maybe by means of a sunny day)

  4. Very cool photo.

It looks like a mole sticking his head out of the ground.

  5. I see a swan, ducking its head under a wing, splashing water at its tail. Amazing how we all see different things, isn't it?

  8. Hi Carmi, Michele says hi, as do I!

I can see how the icicle is reminiscent of a dog, but I also see something else.

Now don't laugh, but it reminds me of a gloved cartoon hand reaching out. I know it's odd, but if you've ever been to a Canucks hockey game in Vancouver, they have these clappig hands on the Jumbotron...

    Have a great weekend!

  9. It looks like a little Dachshund!

You had unseasonably cold weather while here in the UK in April we had unseasonably warm weather. This unseasonable thing seems to be very widespread!

Michele sent me to admire your great pic this time :)

  17. Hey Carmi,

I see clear dog turds, lol. Honestly, that was my very first thought. I know, there's something seriously wrong with me. Slap me, go ahead.

But on a less messy note *grin* I see a seal cuddling a branch and the baby trying to climb on her back.

I shudder to think what Freud would think of my interpretations. lol

Hey, I read you're on your way to China soon - good luck and bring back some awesome pictures.

    *pause*

Well, that was a stupid thing to say. *grin*
