A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Hey, that's my plane!
Air Canada Airbus A340, waiting for flight
Shanghai, China, May 2007 [Click to enlarge]
I took this picture right around the same time as this one. I had a little time to kill before boarding, so out came the camera as I tried to capture my last glimpses of this place before taking off.
The geometry of an airplane is too compelling to leave be. I think I could walk around this particular bird all day and shoot pictures for as long as my battery and memory card would hold out. Maybe someday soon I'll get to do just that. For now, I'll just leave this straightforward image on your screen.
Your turn: The immediate moments before you take off...what's going through your head?

What goes through my head? Anticipation of my trip and that my flight will be safe.
ReplyDeleteGood image.
I suppose, most of us think of the journey to be safe.
ReplyDeleteGreat close up. Infact your post has inspired me to write a poem. Thanks!
As you are aware, Michele sent me!
I always pray for a safe journey.
ReplyDeleteWhat is usually going through my head is how I do not like to think about being UP that high! Except for take-offs, I do not like to fly.
ReplyDeleteUsually the oxygen level drops in the cabine and I start dozing off, really, which is great because then I miss the scariness of the take-off which is absolutely the most dangerous time in flying.
ReplyDeleteit totally looks like a metal bird wearing dark sunglasses.
ReplyDeletebefore taking off all i can do is worry about what i may have forgotten to pack. and the fact that my heart is going to bust out of my body from the excitement. i don't go far very often ;)
How lucky am I that's it's YOU I get to visit and say hi to through Michele's weekend meet and greet! I have only been on a plane a handful of times in my life but each time I close my eyes and say a little prayer. Then I grab the puke bag because you know. I don't do so good on moving objects.
ReplyDeleteCarmi, THANKS for the INCREDIBLY useful suggestion on my blog!! I don't know why I haven't thought of that before...and it will be a great battery saver for my camera, which really eats batteries quickly, anyway (I need to switch to rechargeables!) You may leave tech-geeky comments any time, dear friend...that one was great!
ReplyDeleteThere ain't nothin' like a curvy rear! Seriously though the front shot is so perfectly symetrical I wonder where on earth you had to stand to get it?
ReplyDeleteI no longer fly because it wouldn't be a good idea for my husband to do so and we tend to try to be together, after such a long separation. I used to give up a silent prayer for a safe landing and when we traveled together
- as long as we could hold hands - I felt safe.
Just rounnd from Michele's
Beautiful photo Carmi......unfortunately it does nothing for my longstanding fear of flying.
ReplyDeleteSo.........what's going through my head........
"Please God....don't let me be sitting beside a guy whose number is up!!"
Man, that plane looks like a bird! Wow! Moreso than any other plane I think I've seen, that one's got a definite beak on it.
ReplyDeleteKewl. Not just cool. Kewl.
adventure, going SOMEWHERE, and tiny bags of peanuts
ReplyDeleteUsually that the trip will be safe - then I grip the little hand rails on both sides of me for dear life...and if it gets too bumpy - then I just grab the arm of the person next to me - whether I know them or not!
ReplyDeletePaying a return visit, Carmi --
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me!

Just before takeoff... please don't crash, please don't crash, please don't crash...
ReplyDeleteI have the exact same thoughts upon landing.
I am not a good flier...
This is a GREAT picture, my dear Carmi.....I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it, anywhere! Fabulous, as always!
