Someday, he'll look at the pictures we take of him in his cast and smile. For now, he's just working his way through the next couple of months, trying to figure out - just as we are - how to re-establish a routine that lets him lead as normal a life as possible despite suddenly being very different than everyone around him.
There's no manual for this, of course, so it'll be trial-and-error for the most part. And he'll manage, because he's a tough soul who's already learning that he has deeper reserves of strength than he previously knew. Tough break. Tough kid.
Your turn: Please come up with a caption for this image. Suggest as many as you wish. Refer to the virtual-cast-signing entry comments (click here) for additional inspiration. As before, I'll share every submission with him - gotta love laptops - and he'll help me pick a winner before next week. For the Caption This rules, please click here.
About last week's image of Noah sleeping with our dog, Frasier: Jaded Prima Donna touched a soft spot with her excellent quote: : So tired they could only play frisbee in their dreams...
Honorable menschens (sorry, I'm descending into Yiddishisms today) go to:
- Miss Meliss: Sometimes the best thing in life is a long nap with a good friend.
- Sara: finally home
- John: "It sure was a great day, huh pal?"
- Joy: Serenity Now
- Heidi: It just doesn't get any better than this.
sleepy green-legged alien invades levyland!
ReplyDeleteWe will definitely get through this together...and make us stronger for it. He is one tough kid...wish the mama and papa were as resilient! :-)
Michele sent me this time, but I would have been here anyway!
Love you!!
It's not easy being green...
ReplyDeleteI hope it doesn't hurt too much...
Don't make me angry... you won't like me when I get angry.
ReplyDeleteAs the Levy boy sleeps, he begins his slow but certain transformation into the Incredible Hulk.
ReplyDeleteSidelined, but not for long

Life from a new vantage point
His dreams of bcoming the Incredible Hulk may be coming reality!

rashbre
Thanks for the honourable mention!!
ReplyDeleteThe second I saw that green leg I started to hear kermit sing, over the rainbow.
My flatmate thought he'd been attacked by the jolly green giant while my other flatmate thought he was trying to look like the hulk. But none of us can come up with a good caption.
So we vote for Thumper's "it's not easy being green" Sending speedy recovery thoughts his way from "the other" London :)
I like Star's. Came again for another look at the Sleeping Prince. I can see his father. Here from Michele's.
ReplyDeleteconservation of energy, stage 1.

ReplyDeleteGreat photo Carmi...my gosh he looks just like you folks!
I thought that Rashbre's said it best!!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my pathetic submission (and aren't they all? I never get picked!!)
Zach sleeps with his own built-in DayGlo green night-light...
(see, I TOLD you it was pathetic!)
Hmm...
ReplyDeleteHow about... Green Behind the Ears.
That's all I got! lol
What a great photo tho. I would have loved to have had a purple cast. . . that is, had I ever needed a cast, knock on plaster.
Michele sent me today!
~S :)
Dreaming of the time to cast off...
ReplyDeleteN.
(sent by Michele, of course!)
ReplyDeleteN
Green with envy, Zach had to something drastic for some peace...
ReplyDeleteOf, and Carmi, there may be NO manual's for kids with casts on limbs, but can I refer you to the manual of raising kids! You know, the one that you are given at the time of birth, the 'as built' manual!!
burntofferings and more at bernies fotoblog
Wish if a speedy recovery wont you...
Of course, Caption this is a highlight of your blogging for us too! That really is a lovely photo, by the way.
ReplyDeleteHow bad is the break? And which bone? (I learned more than I expected to in Halifax's emergency room about broken bones, how long they take to fix, and most of all how much of a pain the recovery is later...)
Michele sent me,
N.
Hi Carmi, I'm glad you got in a visit to LL before the kiln christening went off the front page.
ReplyDeleteSomething like "Field of Dreams" or "Green Sleeve Dreams."
Ok, Michelle sent me this time but I'm glad to be back. I feel like I'm visiting a friends house when I stop by here.
ReplyDeleteYou know what this realy is don't you? This is the opportunity for your son to be able to say "Oh yeah, I've broken a bone!" when he and his friends get together and boast about the different injuries they each had.
"Zach Dreams of 'Cast Away'"
ReplyDeletehmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
There are some good'uns here today!
Hi Carmi, I read about Zach's accident, so sorry! My caption is this:
ReplyDeleteIf you think this looks bad, you should see the soccer ball!!
Zach, wishing you a speedy recover dude!
So sorry to hear about Zach's accident! My captin is this:
ReplyDeleteIf you think this looks bad you should see the soccer ball!
Zach, wishing you a speedy recovery!
Already confused that he was going to a "casting" call, Zach's enthusiasm level reached new heights when he took his agent's good luck wish of "break a leg" a bit too literal.
ReplyDeleteHere's to you Zach!
Cheers,
Shane
How about: "SEE? I'M HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT...I'VE GONE GREEN!"
ReplyDeleteWel, Carmi you have completely disappeared from my life. You don't call, you don't visit, I guess you don't love me anymore.
Hugs, Anyway!
Michele sent me toniight...!
Oh, well, would you look at that, I've been here before...
ReplyDeleteNow, another caption...
Not wanting to draw to much attention to himself, young Zach chose green as a sign of selfless self expressionalism...
Here from Michele's (again) from a bright and sunny (but suddenly gone cold at 17 degrees C) Sydney morning...
burntofferings and have you been to bernies fotoblog
Poor baby! So sorry to see your guy in pain. I hope he's on the mend REALLY fast. Happy New Year to you and yours my good friend. I hope that it is a very happy and healthy one... even with this painful beginning. We'll catch up soon.
ReplyDelete"I'm dreaming of being in a cast--one upon a stage. Where it means something entirely different when they say 'break a leg'."
ReplyDeleteyour blog and your writing NEVER FAIL to move me and inspire me. your comments on my blog are always generous and kind. you, my friend, are a good man.
ReplyDeleteNight falls after day-break :) Thanks for stopping by and wishing Seanie well, Carmi. Parenthood - indeed! I'm so sorry your boy got hurt too. I never broke a bone as a child and it's amazing to me how well they continue on and make it as normal as possible. A leg cast has to be hard to lug around, the poor dear. I'm going to show Sean this picture of Zach when he wakes. :) I will pray for a complete recovery for him too Carmi...and for you and Debbie, because I know how you're feeling.
ReplyDeleteCarmi, I don't know if you've ever had a tie, but I vote for thumper AND b13. I think a lad needs an at-school mojo (b13) and deserves to wear his heart on his sleeve at home (thumper).
ReplyDeleteI did the cast and stitches thingy more times than I care to remember, and the school part was indeed a challenge. Sounds like you all are taking terrific care of your son as he knits. Bravo.
