Wordless Wednesday - Walking alone

Solitude
London, ON, September 2007 [Click to enlarge]

As far as I could tell, we were the only two souls on this deserted pathway on this gray late Sunday afternoon, though I don't think this quiet man with the cane knew I was behind him. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves that were just beginning to change colors and begin their final journey earthward.

As I watched him slowly walk ahead of me, I thought about what lay behind the bend. I decided sometimes it's best to take your time getting there. Whatever it is can wait. We'll all get there eventually.

Your turn: What's going through your mind when you're alone for any stretch of time?

  3. often times when i am alone (say walking through the park) i am thinking of all the things i SHOULD be doing instead. or what my kids are up to. or how long i can stay away from the phones before someone sends out a search party.

either that or i am thinking up ways to rearrange my furniture. i actually rearrange my furniture in my head as a lay trying to sleep. usually works!

  5. Hi Carmi. I appreciate the encouraging comment you left on my blog recently. I do have a question of clarification. Do your words "wasted" and "frivolous" describe HIS life or the life of someone who, in comparison, doesn't live his/her dream, so to speak? I can't tell if you meant to criticize or affirm his choices, and I am curious.

  6. There's NO telling, Carmi! My thoughts are all over the place lately. I'd like to be walking that path in your photo.

  7. I totally agree, I'm not into this roller coster speed of life stuff, but some how someone has switched the speed on my merry-go-round life :) ah well, just try to take in the last bits of October today & then prepare for a slower November, even though I know that's not gonna happen!

Happy Halloween to you and the fam!

  8. I find that photo very poignant at the moment. Of course we never know what is around the bend until we actually get there.

Thank you for your kind comment on my post. I do hope your particular bend brings something positive for you.

  9. Guess I'm a bit of a loner because I enjoy time to myself. I like being in the moment mostly, taking in sights and sounds and smells.

  10. When I am alone oftentimes TOO MUCH is going through my brain... and I need to work on quieting it down.

  13. Did I leave anything on or did I remember to lock the door?

I tend to take a lot of walks with the company of my dog...and we live in a fairly wooded area.

  15. often when I'm alone it takes a while for my mind to stop racing and allow it to think at it's own pace...sometimes I think it's good to give ourselves time on our journeys and enjoy the process of getting there...

  16. I think times like the one in the picture give me a sense of perspective. Things that seemed enourmous shrink to a more manageable size. I like time to reflect, it brings peace.

  18. Oh, a lovely image, and the perfect title.

Generally, songs are running through my brain, fitting the cadence of my walk, or the mood of my thoughts.

  21. I'm like Poopie in that I try to just feel the present. We spend so much time in our heads, the past and future, that when you get that time to walk alone it's best to be in the moment.
There's more than just experiencing now, there's being present to the stuff that is around you, and how it feels.
Being alone in nature is the closest thing to touching the proverbial hand of God for me.
