A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Beachy
She sells seashells by the seashore
Deerfield Beach, December 2007
As the wind chimes out back sing furiously in the winter wind that's descended on our little corner of the world, I find myself seeking comfort in pictures that I took not so long ago in a place that now seems light years removed from here.
I often use pictures as a bit of a crutch, staring at them for a bit in the hope that they'll take me, however temporarily, to another time and place. It's a quiet form of personal escapism, and it gives me something genteel to both remember and look forward to as I get ready to tuck in for the night.
Your turn: Do you use photography as a means of escapism? How?

Photographs are not my means of escapism. Books are. No surprises therre.
ReplyDeletemost definately! I tookd a few pics on the weekend of summer items....strawberries and tulips and have them nicely within eye range..... makes me feel warm.
ReplyDeleteFamily shots, old pics etc bring warm loving feelings to the forefront right away.
Yes, photos are a wonderful way of revisiting my travels, knowing that I'mm not likely to be able to return in the near future, if ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd on a simpler level, of revisiting a summer day or a snowy winter afternoon.

TOTALLY! YES!!!
ReplyDeleteI also use photography as a means to be a part of things that normally wouldn't be a part of...capturing intimate AND ordinary moments whether in life or families....
:)
We certainly use our photos to escape our current reality. Most often it's the photos of vacations in exotic locations. We're eager to set out on a new adventure, but unable to do so at this time. I don't know if looking at the photos helps or only makes it worse.
ReplyDeleteEveryday! Photos are my way to see the world...I go to about a dozen or so daily photo blogs of different cities...it is my arm-chair traveler!!!
ReplyDeleteDitto to gautami tripathy. I could lose myself in books for days on end. But pictures are nice, too, and serve as a nice record of things past. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeletePhoto's can definitley act as a key to open memories and transport us to another place :)
ReplyDeleteI love this picture - so simple and yet so evocative.
There is something for you over at my blog :)
photo's are so emo.
ReplyDeleteMy 6 year old daughter is fascinated by sea shells. We are going to BC in summer of 2009 and we are going to take herg seashell hunting by the ocean, even if that means waking up at 3am!
ReplyDeletePhotos can be a wonderful way of escapism....memories rekindled - thoughts and feelings remembered...
ReplyDeletethey often have a value far beyond simply remembering too - because of the emotions they evoke.
...these pictures of the shore are kinda weird for me right now. It's snowing here in Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me over.
Love the photo!
