Ocala, FL, January 2008 [Click to embiggen]

Oops, I'm a bit late to the party this week. I think I'm having trouble with the post-vacation transition back into the real world. Maybe part of me doesn't want to admit that the holidays are over. Then again, who does?

This photo is a result of my shoot-out-of-a-moving-car technique. It isn't highly evolved: I simply sit in the passenger seat and try to get a picture of whatever flashes by the window. No time to frame or meter or even think. Just preset the camera as best I can, then shoot when I feel inspired. (For the record, I'd never do this with film. I'd be broke by dinner.)

As we got back on the road after lunch in northern Florida, I took this as I unsuccessfully tried to guide my wife out of the parking lot of the local Lounge & Liquors establishment. This is the back view. Yum!

Your turn: Please come up with a caption for this image because I most certainly can't. Multiple entries are rewarded with my near-eternal gratitude. It would actually be eternal except for the whole mortality thing (a topic for another day, kids.) I'll announce the winner this Sunday. Enjoy!

About last week's photo of an abandoned big box store: This might have been my hardest choice yet. Waaaay too many great suggestions to pick just one. First, the honorable mentions:
  • SPWriter (Steve): "Future imperfect."
  • Anne: "There's no future in the past."
  • Craziequeen: "The future will one day be past."
  • BBS: "The future has come and gone."
  • Chris Holt: "They shopped till they dropped."
  • Joan: "Internet killed the Future Shop star."
  • Rashbre: "We can always make a better future."
  • Sage: "Nothing that's new remains that way."
  • SisterAE: "The Once and Future Store."
  • Lori: "Forgotten Future."
  • Robin: "Obsolescence in waiting."
  • Awareness: "The future's not so bright after all."
  • Bob-kat: "The shape of things to come."
  • Maura: "The shadow of future past."
  • BreadBox: "Past imperfect."
And since there can be only one winner, this week's nod goes to Jenty for her caption, "Ghost of the future." Jenty is a welcome new arrival to the Written Inc. family, so I hope you'll drop by her blog and send her our collective best.

I haven't been in WW for a while but I still keep up with your blog...I love to see your photos and read your perspective on things.
I particularly like this post as it proves to my family that I am not the only crazy person who takes photos out the car window while the car is in motion. Thanks for that!
    Hugs!

  10. The boss said it was time to mop up but the handle would only reach so far up the dirty wall. Fred went back to ask.

  11. Cleaning? Who cares!

I know that is not very original but I can't think of anything else.

I know I should have come here before this. After all you are in my blogroll!

Suppose that is the reason Michele sents us over to check each other lest we forget!

  14. It reminds me of a lone sentinel guarding a long-forgotten outpost.

"Blue mop holding up a lonely wall."

This is a tough one, Carmi.

  15. A little out of season, but the first thing that popped into my head was:

Mop the walls until they're cleee-an, fa la la la la la la la la

But then I somehow got on a Cinderella kick...

"Make the fire! Fix the breakfast! Wash the dishes! Do the moppin'!"

    or

"I'd be honored, Your Highness. Would you mind holding my mop?"

    or

"Oh, where's my fairy godmother when I need her?"

  16. I love the shooting out the moving car technique! I've gotten some fun shots that way! :) I like the washed and worn look of this photo.

  17. Ooooooo! So, I'm driving down the road and this little ray of sunshine popped into my head--

"When Molly's back was against the wall, she knew she needed a clean break."

    or the much shorter--

    "Clean break"

(Ideas pop in at their leisure...kind of like my appearance on your blog ;).)

  18. Behind Door 1, the bucket of your dreams. Behind Door 2... a WRINGER!

A clean mop is a sure sign of a dirty floor.

Decisions, decisions: which restroom to mop first?..

  19. Sorry dear Carmi...I haven't a clue to what this is..So I cannot caption it...
    Michele sent me tonight.

  20. PS Regarding my earlier post: Mop & Glo is a floor cleaning product here in the states. (At least it used to be, I haven't looked for it in a zillion years.) Later it occurred to me later you might not have that stuff in Ontario and therefore not get the pun.

  21. No worries, Anne: my mother always had some in the cleaning cupboard. The brand was one of those icons of my childhood that I won't soon forget.

I haven't seen it in a while, too: I guess not all old brands survive.

  22. I'm catching up here, Carmi. Seems like you had a great holiday, but....you were in OCALA? Come ON....that was only about an hour from Cedar Key.
You mean to tell me you didn't even make it up here to my island? Shame on you!
But it looks like everyone had a great get-away.
