A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Wordless Wednesday - Power to the people
Zapped
London, Ontario, April 2008 [Click to embiggen, otherwise you might miss something]
This photo continues my series from the local supermarket's otherwise-dismal parking lot. I challenged myself to find something worthwhile in this desolate place, and ended up bringing a bunch of neat stuff home. Click here to see the first image. I hope you'll check back through the week for more from this series.
Your turn: Lots of messages in this photo, if you take the time to look closely enough. Thoughts?
One more thing: Click here to submit your suggestion for this week's Caption This. Fame and fortune await the victor. Or my everlasting adulation, whichever you prefer.

That little wire at the top makes me think "party line!" :D
ReplyDeleteunfortunately, I wish those lines were out of the way of that beautiful blue sky. Modernity is always muddying up the landscape...
ReplyDeletecool shot, though!
happy WW
great play on words!
ReplyDeletehappy ww. ☺
That's actually a really interesting photo. I like modernism, or very simple images and contexts. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNumber one on the WW link - wow!
ReplyDeleteI've lurked around here for awhile and you have many thought provoking things to say. Makes one think. I like that.
I'm thinking for this pic since there's so many lines - there's power in numbers!
I love the idea of forcing yourself to find something to capture in a setting that seems not probable. Great lines in this one. Well done.
ReplyDeleteMy WW post for this week is up.
Interesting shot and series. I like your caption, it's perfect for this shot! Wish I could come up with clever comments!
ReplyDeleteJoin me here if you can!
Just Some Thoughts
Why, Carmi...I'm s h o c k e d!
ReplyDelete;)
What beautiful blue sky you have...and an eye for finding the fun in the ordinary. To me, a gift.
Nice pic :)
ReplyDeleteNice Shot! Happy WW!

Wow your number one again in WW... the lines looks much better and well arrange compare to what it looks like from other country...
ReplyDeleteClean and neat shot.
ReplyDeleteMy WW entry is up too!
nice pics. I like when some people take a time to make the ordinary thing extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...lots of parallel lines. Maybe the sky is behind bars-? Kind of reminds me of a fence for some reason.
ReplyDeleteHope you can stop by for tea sometime. :)
I'm with Carrie, modern life taking the beauty out of the everyday and zapping nature.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe I'm just working too much, but your dismal supermarket series is a fantastic idea, and speaks to the problem of modern life. Jobs are jails! The rat race is a jail! We get so caught up in the everyday that we lose it's beauty in our conveniences that trap us.
Great job as usual! :-)
I like this shot a lot. It features lines and contrast. I wish our lines could be as pretty.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I love it. I carry my camera around all the time but never thought of that.
ReplyDeleteInteresting take. I don't think utility poles and wires are very pretty, but I do like that they often provide me with a view of bird congregations.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting composition.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'd be lost without my 'lectricity!
I see the plane! Now I challenge you to find the bird in my WW ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
This is a terrific photo Carmi!!!
ReplyDeleteMy W W is a very short video of the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico! Hope to see you there, visiting with me today.
Happy Wednesday
Pigeons beware?
ReplyDelete:)
Love the title!! Great shot too.
ReplyDeleteOk, in south africa we are currently experiencing power outages, our electricity provider revers to this as "load shedding."
ReplyDeletei could give you that as a caption but then again this would be a cation that needed a caption.
Oooohhh....LINES. LOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteI love finding beauty in the ordinary things around us.
ReplyDeleteInteresting photo!
Happy WW!
That's a great idea and shot. I usually have my camera with me, but never thought of taking pictures in offbeat places in an attempt to make it "pleasant."
ReplyDeletewhat a really neat idea carmi! gives me inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteI like the caption! Happy Wordless Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThere is a TV ad here in the Philippines about an inexpensive mobile/telecoms services and their tag line is "Power to the People" And of course, our country is known for toppling presidents through People Power. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteNice photo, though I must agree with Carries, these lines get in the way of seeing a beautiful blue sky.
Beautiful, blue sky. Nice to "meet" you.
ReplyDeleteGina
What a line!
ReplyDeleteCool photo... Interesting idea... I enjoyed the grocery cart photos... I always like the idea of looking at viewing things we normally sort of look past with a "new" or artist's eye. I think you have the makings of a book here.
ReplyDeleteBZZZZZ.....
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, as always.
Love the title. And I love the way you make the ordinary extraordinary. This and the shopping carts are two new favorites for me.
ReplyDeleteOh. And "hi." Long time, no see. Sorry.
and taken on a pretty day! Can't beat that!! LOL Very neat photo!
ReplyDeleteThe cart photo is neat, too. Very cool how you find art like that. True talent.
I love this idea and this photo, Carmi!
ReplyDeleteGreat POV! The sky is such a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteWell isn't that just funny I work for an Electrical Co-op.
ReplyDeleteI'd say you succeeded in finding something to shoot. :) Imagine what our lives would be like without these big power lines....yipes.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Holly
What a great idea to force yourself to fing things to take pictures of! Very interesting shot!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Interesting picture, shocking!
ReplyDeleteBut really I would prefer just the sky!
cool shot, love the title!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely did a great job at fulfilling your challenge! This is a very creative shot with the shapes, lines, and colors. Such a busy and powerful (pardon the pun) scene contrasted against a simple blue sky.
ReplyDeleteI love it! You've got a great eye and great talent.
What would we do without it?
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and beautiful blue sky!
I like that!
ReplyDeleteI thought your picture was very neat and original. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me and leaving a comment. Glad you enjoyed the wild turkeys in our trees.
That was an interesting picture. I love how you found interest in something people see everyday but never look at.
ReplyDeleteNeat shot! I love the way the wires stand out as being so man-made up against the completely natural blue, blue, blue sky.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. You have to wonder at the strength of the poles.... those lines are heavy.
ReplyDeleteWhat an original idea!!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking... all of us in the blogosphere living in a parallel universe...
Thanks for dropping by - Happy WW!
Great perspective shot and perfect title. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteIT'S ELECTRIC...boogie, woogie, woogie! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of power
ReplyDeleteInteresting shot! I love the angle of it.
ReplyDeleteI love this picture!!! I am starting to work on a similar concept, I want to make sure I find something interesting enough to take a picture of it everywhere I go!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the AWESOME comments on my WW!
"Power to the People" ...Totem Pole of Democracy ?!
ReplyDeleteYou always take such interesting photos. This one says so much about society.
ReplyDeleteThe wires seem to emphasize the blue in the sky. I like the splash of crimson from the reddish wires. I tend to focus on colors.
ReplyDeleteJust the thought of touching that makes me jolt with electricity!
ReplyDeleteThis definitely did make me smile, but mostly because SA is in a power crisis at the moment, so these wires rarely work for us :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you took a different approach to WW. It isn't everyday photographers find something like this and take it in a positive way. As you have seen in your comments, many detest the look, or are not fond of it.
ReplyDeleteMe? I like the symmetry with the lines against the blue sky. The lines tend to spark off red against the blue by the angle you caught them at.
LOVE IT!
Oh, and thanks for stopping by my blog!
I love the lines of symmetry with the reds sparkign off the lines against the blue sky. Nice approach to a WW!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of what I see in the walmart parking lot, the only place to shop in the small town I live in.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd rather the image remind of the needs of people to communicate more with other.
I can hear the crackling from here!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words regarding my blog.
ReplyDeleteYour quest to notice the beauty and interest in the ordinary is refreshing. It's something I challenge myself to do, as often as I can.
Thanks again!
Thanks for visiting my WW, I am glad it made you laugh. I really like powerline photos. I have attempted a few myself, but this one is really great. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteInteresting..............the sky is stunning!
ReplyDeleteRead between the lines, you say? Well, I spotted a tiny little jet. I have an eye for detail, come see. Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteNice picture, I love it!!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
My post: "Dressed to kill"
This shot reminds me of the view from my upstairs patio (over my garage) where 'above ground telephone wires' block my view because I live in an older part of this beach community in Southern California.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to and comment on Small Reflections this morning. I do have a 2nd WW/OSI post on my other blog also using the One Single Impression prompt for Week 6: Stranded Heliocopter Rescue
Okay, wires. You were right.
ReplyDeletewhat a great and interesting photo!
ReplyDeleteinteresting shot, i like it.
ReplyDeleteVery cool picture!!
ReplyDeleteParallel lives.. often close but not crossing..
ReplyDeleteI'm not very great at interpretation.. but I do appreciate!
Love the lines and the composition - the power of thirds makes it a dramatic photo. Hmmm...pardon the use of "power," no pun intended.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and checking out my WW sunset photo!!! I love shooting sunsets and took full advantage of the oceanscape on a recent vacation. (Oceans are cool when you live in the mountains!)
That is a very interesting photo with many layers - thanks for visiting The Cafe.
ReplyDeleteI love the brilliant blue of the sky but the wires look scary to me, hot. Happy WW! and thank you for visiting...and commenting! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW..
ReplyDeleteYou really take amazing shots!!! I love them all...
Thanks for stopping by on ww... enjoyed your blue sky power photo!
ReplyDeleteInnerconnectivity (sp?) -- something I'm struggling with which is why I posted the wedding one. Thx for your visit. Happy WW. *huggies*
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog, and the nice comment about my ww post. :)
ReplyDeleteThe power lines are a sad statement on our dependence on electricity and oil in today's society aren't they?
Carmi, the little bird at the top of the pole says: "WTF?"
ReplyDeleteYou are right! It did make me smile. What a neat shot. All I can think about is all the technology that we currently use. Currently all of us bloggers using the electricity to power up our computers so we can post our WW. LOL - Have a good one.
ReplyDeleteOi, that's a great WW entry and photo
ReplyDeleteI love the parallel lines. Sometimes with manmade objects there is beauty if you look hard enough. You found it.
ReplyDeleteElectrical power lines? What a "bright" idea for a photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture! I like the graphic lines and that deep blue sky.
ReplyDeletee-Mom @ Splash*Graphics
Amazing blues...great play on words!
ReplyDeleteI love that you wanted to find something interesting out a a desolate place. Very admirable and just goes to show it truly is how you look at things that make the difference.
ReplyDeleteLooking at that makes me think of the guys who have to climb those poles and work on those wires so we can have power. A big job!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots in the grocery store, too.
There are new stores opening up all around us and I love the new carts because I always get the loser carts.
Thanks for stopping by my WW!
The richness of the blue sky totally makes this shot. Nicely abstract.
ReplyDeletehttp://womanwithahatchet.blogspot.com/
thanks for stopping by my blog! your photo is very cool, i will definitely be checking back here for more.
ReplyDeletecall me geeky...
but i wondered how many watts are going through there.
I think of the "hummmm" that brings me what I need to make my life easier.
ReplyDeleteCompelled to return after oatmeal and brown sugar...and milk. :) Now, who can eat oatmeal without brown sugar?
You are funny, man. :)
You obviously enjoy finding beauty or worth in everything around you. That is good. You have a nice blog.
My youngest son called any overhead line "gabby lines" probably in response to my telling him in a general way that they were "telephone poles and wires."
ReplyDeleteI love the view.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteCome back anytime.
Interesting photo for WW.
