Wordless Wednesday - Power to the people

Zapped
London, Ontario, April 2008 [Click to embiggen, otherwise you might miss something]

This photo continues my series from the local supermarket's otherwise-dismal parking lot. I challenged myself to find something worthwhile in this desolate place, and ended up bringing a bunch of neat stuff home. Click here to see the first image. I hope you'll check back through the week for more from this series.

Your turn: Lots of messages in this photo, if you take the time to look closely enough. Thoughts?

One more thing: Click here to submit your suggestion for this week's Caption This. Fame and fortune await the victor. Or my everlasting adulation, whichever you prefer.

  1. That little wire at the top makes me think "party line!" :D

  2. unfortunately, I wish those lines were out of the way of that beautiful blue sky. Modernity is always muddying up the landscape...

    cool shot, though!

    happy WW

    happy ww. ☺

  4. That's actually a really interesting photo. I like modernism, or very simple images and contexts. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Number one on the WW link - wow!

I've lurked around here for awhile and you have many thought provoking things to say. Makes one think. I like that.

I'm thinking for this pic since there's so many lines - there's power in numbers!

  6. I love the idea of forcing yourself to find something to capture in a setting that seems not probable. Great lines in this one. Well done.

My WW post for this week is up.

  7. Interesting shot and series. I like your caption, it's perfect for this shot! Wish I could come up with clever comments!

  8. Why, Carmi...I'm s h o c k e d!

    ;)

What beautiful blue sky you have...and an eye for finding the fun in the ordinary. To me, a gift.

  11. Clean and neat shot.

My WW entry is up too!

  12. nice pics. I like when some people take a time to make the ordinary thing extraordinary.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hmmm...lots of parallel lines. Maybe the sky is behind bars-? Kind of reminds me of a fence for some reason.

Hope you can stop by for tea sometime. :)

  14. I'm with Carrie, modern life taking the beauty out of the everyday and zapping nature.

Or maybe I'm just working too much, but your dismal supermarket series is a fantastic idea, and speaks to the problem of modern life. Jobs are jails! The rat race is a jail! We get so caught up in the everyday that we lose it's beauty in our conveniences that trap us.

    Great job as usual! :-)

  15. I like this shot a lot. It features lines and contrast. I wish our lines could be as pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great idea. I love it. I carry my camera around all the time but never thought of that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Interesting take. I don't think utility poles and wires are very pretty, but I do like that they often provide me with a view of bird congregations.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Very interesting composition.

Hey, I'd be lost without my 'lectricity!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I see the plane! Now I challenge you to find the bird in my WW ;)

    Happy WW!

My W W is a very short video of the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico! Hope to see you there, visiting with me today.

    Happy Wednesday

  21. Love the title!! Great shot too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ok, in south africa we are currently experiencing power outages, our electricity provider revers to this as "load shedding."
i could give you that as a caption but then again this would be a cation that needed a caption.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oooohhh....LINES. LOVE IT.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love finding beauty in the ordinary things around us.

    Interesting photo!

    Happy WW!

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's a great idea and shot. I usually have my camera with me, but never thought of taking pictures in offbeat places in an attempt to make it "pleasant."

  29. There is a TV ad here in the Philippines about an inexpensive mobile/telecoms services and their tag line is "Power to the People" And of course, our country is known for toppling presidents through People Power. Sigh.

Nice photo, though I must agree with Carries, these lines get in the way of seeing a beautiful blue sky.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Beautiful, blue sky. Nice to "meet" you.

  31. Cool photo... Interesting idea... I enjoyed the grocery cart photos... I always like the idea of looking at viewing things we normally sort of look past with a "new" or artist's eye. I think you have the makings of a book here.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love the title. And I love the way you make the ordinary extraordinary. This and the shopping carts are two new favorites for me.

Oh. And "hi." Long time, no see. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  33. and taken on a pretty day! Can't beat that!! LOL Very neat photo!
The cart photo is neat, too. Very cool how you find art like that. True talent.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love this idea and this photo, Carmi!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Great POV! The sky is such a beautiful color.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well isn't that just funny I work for an Electrical Co-op.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'd say you succeeded in finding something to shoot. :) Imagine what our lives would be like without these big power lines....yipes.

    Hugs,
    Holly

  38. What a great idea to force yourself to fing things to take pictures of! Very interesting shot!

    Thanks for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Interesting picture, shocking!
But really I would prefer just the sky!

    ReplyDelete
  40. You definitely did a great job at fulfilling your challenge! This is a very creative shot with the shapes, lines, and colors. Such a busy and powerful (pardon the pun) scene contrasted against a simple blue sky.

I love it! You've got a great eye and great talent.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What would we do without it?
Great photo and beautiful blue sky!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought your picture was very neat and original. Good choice.

Thanks for visiting me and leaving a comment. Glad you enjoyed the wild turkeys in our trees.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That was an interesting picture. I love how you found interest in something people see everyday but never look at.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Neat shot! I love the way the wires stand out as being so man-made up against the completely natural blue, blue, blue sky.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Interesting. You have to wonder at the strength of the poles.... those lines are heavy.

    ReplyDelete
  46. What an original idea!!

I'm thinking... all of us in the blogosphere living in a parallel universe...

Thanks for dropping by - Happy WW!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Great perspective shot and perfect title. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy WW!

  48. IT'S ELECTRIC...boogie, woogie, woogie! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Interesting shot! I love the angle of it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love this picture!!! I am starting to work on a similar concept, I want to make sure I find something interesting enough to take a picture of it everywhere I go!

Thank you for the AWESOME comments on my WW!

    ReplyDelete
  51. "Power to the People" ...Totem Pole of Democracy ?!

    ReplyDelete
  52. You always take such interesting photos. This one says so much about society.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The wires seem to emphasize the blue in the sky. I like the splash of crimson from the reddish wires. I tend to focus on colors.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just the thought of touching that makes me jolt with electricity!

    ReplyDelete
  55. This definitely did make me smile, but mostly because SA is in a power crisis at the moment, so these wires rarely work for us :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I like how you took a different approach to WW. It isn't everyday photographers find something like this and take it in a positive way. As you have seen in your comments, many detest the look, or are not fond of it.

Me? I like the symmetry with the lines against the blue sky. The lines tend to spark off red against the blue by the angle you caught them at.

    LOVE IT!

Oh, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love the lines of symmetry with the reds sparkign off the lines against the blue sky. Nice approach to a WW!

  58. Reminds me of what I see in the walmart parking lot, the only place to shop in the small town I live in.

I think I'd rather the image remind of the needs of people to communicate more with other.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can hear the crackling from here!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thank you for your kind words regarding my blog.

Your quest to notice the beauty and interest in the ordinary is refreshing. It's something I challenge myself to do, as often as I can.

    Thanks again!

  61. Thanks for visiting my WW, I am glad it made you laugh. I really like powerline photos. I have attempted a few myself, but this one is really great. Cheers!

  62. Interesting..............the sky is stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Read between the lines, you say? Well, I spotted a tiny little jet. I have an eye for detail, come see. Happy WW!

  64. Nice picture, I love it!!

  65. This shot reminds me of the view from my upstairs patio (over my garage) where 'above ground telephone wires' block my view because I live in an older part of this beach community in Southern California.

Thanks for your visit to and comment on Small Reflections this morning. I do have a 2nd WW/OSI post on my other blog also using the One Single Impression prompt for Week 6: Stranded Heliocopter Rescue

  66. Okay, wires. You were right.

    ReplyDelete
  67. what a great and interesting photo!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Parallel lives.. often close but not crossing..

I'm not very great at interpretation.. but I do appreciate!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Love the lines and the composition - the power of thirds makes it a dramatic photo. Hmmm...pardon the use of "power," no pun intended.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my WW sunset photo!!! I love shooting sunsets and took full advantage of the oceanscape on a recent vacation. (Oceans are cool when you live in the mountains!)

  70. That is a very interesting photo with many layers - thanks for visiting The Cafe.

  71. I love the brilliant blue of the sky but the wires look scary to me, hot. Happy WW! and thank you for visiting...and commenting! ;)

  75. Thanks for stopping by my blog, and the nice comment about my ww post. :)

The power lines are a sad statement on our dependence on electricity and oil in today's society aren't they?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Carmi, the little bird at the top of the pole says: "WTF?"

    ReplyDelete
  77. You are right! It did make me smile. What a neat shot. All I can think about is all the technology that we currently use. Currently all of us bloggers using the electricity to power up our computers so we can post our WW. LOL - Have a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oi, that's a great WW entry and photo

    ReplyDelete
  79. I love the parallel lines. Sometimes with manmade objects there is beauty if you look hard enough. You found it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Electrical power lines? What a "bright" idea for a photo!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Great capture! I like the graphic lines and that deep blue sky.

  82. Amazing blues...great play on words!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I love that you wanted to find something interesting out a a desolate place. Very admirable and just goes to show it truly is how you look at things that make the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Looking at that makes me think of the guys who have to climb those poles and work on those wires so we can have power. A big job!

Great shots in the grocery store, too.
There are new stores opening up all around us and I love the new carts because I always get the loser carts.

Thanks for stopping by my WW!

    ReplyDelete
  85. The richness of the blue sky totally makes this shot. Nicely abstract.

  86. thanks for stopping by my blog! your photo is very cool, i will definitely be checking back here for more.

    call me geeky...

but i wondered how many watts are going through there.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think of the "hummmm" that brings me what I need to make my life easier.

Compelled to return after oatmeal and brown sugar...and milk. :) Now, who can eat oatmeal without brown sugar?

    You are funny, man. :)

You obviously enjoy finding beauty or worth in everything around you. That is good. You have a nice blog.

    ReplyDelete
  88. My youngest son called any overhead line "gabby lines" probably in response to my telling him in a general way that they were "telephone poles and wires."

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
    Come back anytime.
    Interesting photo for WW.
