  2. Macro shots whenever possible, a steady hand, and always, always a "good eye".

    Works every time!

(I'm laughing maniacally right now, btw :) ).

Water, for me, has been a difficult medium to capture; you've done so well here, Carmi.

  3. I had to click the larger view and put my nose right to the screen to believe it was water. Happy WW!

  4. Water? I thought it was maybe petrified wood.
So, how do I achieve photographic texture - apparently not well :)
    Wonderful photo!

  5. I agree with Will. I did a double take myself. If it weren't for your title, my mind would still be wandering. Nice capture Carmi.

  6. That is such a cool shot, Carmi! It's one that could be SO many different things - chocolate, water, rocks - to name a few. It's all a matter of perspective and imagination.

  7. I'm still working on basics, like lighting and composition, getting my settings right. I haven't tried for specific textures. You've managed to do it quite well.

My post this week was a very early attempt at those basics with my old 35m film camera from over 20 years ago. I'm still working on those basics today with digital.

Check it out if you get a chance at Just Some Thoughts

  10. It's a great picture and someone said water, but all I could see were tortured souls writhing in agony, or maybe it was the top layer of brownies?? I'm not sure, but I think my pain pills have messed up my perception little bit. ;)

  29. With the sepia tones, this looks like chocolate, which I would mind touching either!

I now have the use of a mini tabletop tripod, and that used with "macro mode" really helps capture texture on things.

  33. Hey Carmi, that is a great texture. I don't use textures yet, but I am going to learn how very soon!

  34. Is everything ok with you today? You're not saying much, again.

I hope your dad's doing better.

  35. I love this shot - it's so emotional!

As for your question, I've had my digital camera for a few years now, but I'm still not past the play mode, so I tend to take the same shot with only one setting change (and not even a lens change!)

    Just because I can.

I'm a fan of my tripod too.

  46. I'm going with brownie too; it's a fun texture to look at.

(Do you use a tripod? It's a very steady shot.)
