On Mojo's wise suggestion, our Thematic Photographic theme for the the next week is 2009, the year that was. In many respects it's been a year many of us would like to forget. But the mere fact that we have the opportunity to reflect at all is, in itself, sufficient cause for celebration. We're here, and that's all that matters.
So I hope you use this theme as an opportunity to look back and to be thankful for whatever blessings the year brought you. And in my case, nothing tops my wife and kids. So to kick off my own contributions to this week's theme, I present the four people who somehow managed to help me focus on the good, and who somehow managed to keep me whole.
About this theme: You'll notice a couple of new additions to the way we run Thematic:
- First, the theme name is a phrase and not a word. For most of its existence, themes have been one word only. I think loosening the limits and allowing a few descriptive words in the title may make things easier on everyone and give y'all more to work with.
- Second, I'm putting more than one picture in. No sense limiting myself on the photographic end, either, right? Feel free to do the same.
What a gorgeous family! You don't hear the saying now and it IS a compliment..... my mother used to say attractive people had 'come to bed' eyes! Looking back I can't think why she said it as she was born on 1898 and was a bit of a prude! But I know it was meant as an accolade. And you all deserve it! I'm so gad you're forward-looking after the downer of 2009. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteI can't find any one photo to express 2009, and I haven't the time to delve, but good luck with the meme.
Your family is lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how to interpret this theme, but I will definitely try!
Your family is beautiful, Carmi.
ReplyDeleteI will have to think on this theme over the weekend.
Great photos, Carmi. I've never seen all three of your kids together here. You have a very lovely family. I'm off to find my favs. Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any pictures to share, so I will leave a thought instead.
ReplyDeleteI remember stumbling onto your blog many years ago, probably around 2004 or 2005. And while I may not have been a daily visitor I have come by often.
It is nice to see that you are still at it. Have a great new year.
Happy New Year to you and your lovely family, Carmi!
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you all a joyous, creative and peaceful 2010...
And I'll see what I can come up with!
Hmmmmm.....My computer told me my comment was posted last night, but I don't see it here now so I'm trying again. Sorry if it's duplicated.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo...I love the visit the site and play along when I can. It's nice to see your family, Carmi.
Here's my first entry into this week's challenge.

Well obviously I love the theme ;), and I love your take on it. I think you chose the perfect subject, and the love in this entry is clear. And easy to understand as well.
ReplyDeleteAs for the multi-word prompt, in this case I don't think it would have had the same impact had it simply been "2009", though you could have explained it in the post. Going forward, there's no reason whatever why these can't be phrases rather than words. Sometimes one word isn't ever enough.
I frequently submit more than one photo in a post, and with a theme as wide open as this one, and a year as photographically productive as 2009 that was almost a given. The difference is that mine may or may not be related on any given day. There was simply too much material to work from.
I tried to go in roughly chronological order this week, and have already scheduled the first 6 days (with 3 photos each). The finale I haven't shot yet, but as miserably as 2009 started, it's ended on a truly lovely note for me. You won't see nearly all of the wonder of 2009 this week, but there was much to celebrate -- and record.
For starters: Thematic Photographic 82: "2009 - The Year that Was" v.1.0 - Snow! Twice! With Special Guests, Helga the Amazon She-Hawk and Litle GTO
Family is definitely at the top of my list as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm also thankful for all the new people that I have met through the blogs.
I've enjoyed following your blog and comments this year.
Happy New Year.
Lovely blog Carmi. And truly beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteHere is to your 2010.

It's been GOOD to set aside the time and actually decide what to put into this.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nudges that this site brings and for your invitation for us to join together here.
I am happy to come back to the fold! I may not be showing up as often as I like, but I still like looking at all the purdy pictures.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2010 to all!
