Thematic Photographic 127 - Family

Us
Laval, QC, August 2010

I've chosen "family" as this week's Thematic Photographic theme* because everything in my life resolves around mine, and I suspect I'm not alone in this. Sure, everyone's definition of family is different and not everyone may see their own family through quite the same lens that I do. But if diversity is the fuel of life, then gloriously diverse families are its spark. And its reward, come to think of it.

Besides, the end-of-year period is a natural breakpoint to pause for a bit and think about what matters most. To me, the answer is simple: Them.

Your turn: Thematic Photographic is all about participation and sharing, so I hope you'll all use the next week to participate in this theme and share your own visions of what family looks like - and, more importantly, means - to you. Enjoy this one. I know I will.

*Thematic Photographic is our weekly photo sharing/learning activity. All you need to do is post a pic related to the theme to your blog, then come on back here and leave a comment letting everyone know where to find it. Feel free to use new stuff, pics from the archives or even entries you posted long ago. Anything goes. To add to the fun, visit other participants, and repeat as often as you'd like - we encourage that sort of thing around here. For more background on Thematic, please click here.

  2. Awwww. You're all so cute!

Son #1 there looks like he's got a bit of spit and vinegar in him. ;) I enjoy that sort of student in my class.

  5. Okay, here's my first set of pics on this subject. These choices were inspired by your son.

  6. Your older son is a spitting image of you Carmi.

For my entry I submit this recent blog post. I don't have any photos of my family - as unusual as that may be, so it might be a bit off topic. Or not.

  8. What a beautiful family you have! Isn't it wonderful to see the family resemblance between the parents and the kids?

What a fun theme to get us ready for the holidays, too!

  10. What an awesome family photo. You all look so wonderfully relaxed and comfortable with each other.

You are so lucky to have them, Carmi - and they are very fortunate in having such a father as you.

    My post is here

  11. Lovely photo - but unlikely your family, mine would not be happy to see their photos on my blog - privacy concerns and so on - so I found different sort of family photo to post here

  14. Hi Carmi!

Great choice for this weeks theme! AND ... as several have already stated, Your oldest son and you are almost mirror images of each other. ( I would love to see a pic of you at that age.) BUT ... I am sure you have heard that soooo many time . . . so forget I mentioned it.

For this theme, I am submitting 2 photos, reason being, with 3 adult children, it seems we are never all in one place at one time. Our middle child (son) lives in a different state and we only see him several times a year (as oppose to all the time).

Both pics are from this past summer.

  18. Finally mine are posted. Love the theme Carmi, who doesn't love family but it sure was hard selecting, and stopping, so I went for my silly side of life, Children, Grandchildren, couple of dogs and myself!

  20. Fitting theme for this time of year, but I have to admit, it was one of the harder ones to come up with a good theme for. Hopefully, this works:

a thought, that even strangers can become family

  23. I suppose everyone says that your kids have your eyes. The oldest does look taller than you now!
I chose a group picture... although I'm not really fond of them, the older crowd seems to think these are must haves for any special occasion. But the four couples represent 220 years of marriage... they have cemented their lives together as family.

  24. Carmi, I truly love your theme this week, (did post mine) but one question? May we send back your snowmageddon, because I think you sent it our way!?! I know it will probably only last this day...but it's a real blizzard out here! Thanks for making this desirable blog available for us all! But you can have the snow back! :)

  26. Wow! 31 comments ahead of me. I guess that says something in itself about family and how we are all affected. My family is often the subject to my photography so for this post I have chosen a heritage shot. Once again, thank you Carmi - you give good vibes.

  28. My family and I live in Dubai now, and Christmas is a little different over here. When we go to kids Christmas days, they ride on camels and hold falcons.

Ooh, and sorry about the last word in that link - there were many parts of the day that were less than perfect and I had a good rant.

  30. Carmi, I'm glad pets came up Saturday. When my kids were little, they were early risers. So weekend mornings, I got up early (like 5am early) to play and feed and play and watch tv and then play, hopefully keeping them quiet enough that my wife could sleep just a little longer. The kids are grown, and now we have kittens. Kittens who until yesterday thought 5am was the perfect time to play and then have breakfast. So 5:30 Saturday morning, there I am - having fed them breakfast - watching cartoons to keep them occupied while my wife sleeps in a little longer. http://seewhatsaround.blogspot.com/2010/12/saturday-morning.html
    The more things change...
