A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

You looking at me?
Oops
Deerfield Beach, FL, December 2008
[Please click here to share your own pictures of strangers]
I'll likely never know if the woman in this shot knew I was taking her picture. I think she made eye contact with me, but beyond the furtive glance pictured here, she didn't respond more overtly. No screaming. No jumping out of her chair. No chasing me down the beach or trying to rip the memory card from my camera.
Still, I thought it was sweet that these two were having such a relaxing day at the beach, and I didn't want to forget what it felt like to stumble across a moment like this. You see all sorts of people at the beach, and some of them, even if they're total strangers, deserve more than just a passing glance.
Your turn: What makes a stranger worth remembering?
One more thing: I'm back in the air again today...heading to Minneapolis for a couple of days. Never been there. Don't know what to expect. Likely won't have a whole lot of time to explore, anyway, but I'll probably find a quick moment or two to snag some images on a memory card. As ever, I'll use the Internet to connect with home. I can't imagine being far from home and not being able to reach out with such ease.

Randomly taking photos of people on the beach is an assignment that could get you in trouble! :) I remember when a friend of mine took his family to France and one morning his son when out on the beach and when the film was developed (this was 25 yrs ago), the boy's mother was shocked to see her teenage son's photo talents on a beach where there were topless bathers.
ReplyDeleteI would expect snow.. but you might just stumble in to an unusual winter thaw... seems like I heard that the northern plains would warm up even more than here on the east coast. We are back on the temperature roller coaster.
ReplyDeleteMinneapolis, brrrrrr! Have a good trip. Love the couple you chose, I think I would remember them too. Love that guy's beard. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw a couple napping on deck of a cruise ship. I remember them because they both had their head held at the same angle with their mouth open the same way.
ReplyDeleteYou captured middle America quite well. LOL
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Minneapolis. I am curious to see what you snap pictures of to share with us.
ReplyDeleteIsn't modern day technology great. I am glad you are able to keep in contact with your family when you are away.
Blessings to you today.
Wow a ZZ Top beard! awesome. I love the expression on her face - on the border between puzzlement and righteous anger!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip - and enjoy getting home again :)
Liked the expression on her face :)
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago I was taking a late afternoon walk up the creek. There was hardly anyone but me -- and that usually doesn't bother me.
ReplyDeleteI'd stopped to photo a Kestral high above on a pole ... when a woman appeared and made a beeline for me. She was "tweaking"... no doubt in my mind.
I had my camera and NEVER once thought to take a photo of her. I think I was looking over her shoulder hoping another person would cross our paths.
Fortunately she was only very talkative and strange -- and did not make any threats.
I have seen her once more since then. And she was sober.
