Thematic Photographic 146 - Aerial

Looking into space
Kennedy Space Center, FL, December 2010

Ever been up high? Ever take a picture of the experience? If so, that's the deal with this week's Thematic theme, aerial.

I chose this pic to mark the Space Shuttle Endeavour's final launch this morning from the left-hand tip of the Y (launch pad 39A) in the photo above. The day this photo was taken, her sister ship, Discovery, sat on the pad, awaiting her own launch on her own final flight.

It'll be weird when these places go silent. Doesn't strike me as right.

Your turn: Share an aerial-themed photo of your own on your blog - or find one you've already posted, even long ago - and leave a comment here letting folks know where to find it. Visit other participants' entries to share the photographic love. For more info on Thematic, click here. The point of all this? To stretch our optical horizons a bit. And to enjoy the experience. Are you game?

  1. I love it, that is an awesome view of the launch pads! I got up at 3am to watch Endeavour take to the skies today, so I am fading fast... but glad I stayed awake long enough to see this post.

My favorite aerial pic was a shot of the Arizona Meteor Crater I took from an airplane:

hard to believe that thing is a mile across. From a plane it looks like a divot, LOL...

  3. Game? I'm certainly game but ... Aerial? Really Carmi? Oh my. I haven't been on a plane in a hundred years, and I live in the flatlands.

Guess I'll just have to play cheerleader this week. Ha! Guess that's what I get for hiding under a rock for so long. Unless, of course, I can come up with my own weird erm ... unique take on this one.

  4. I did come up with something after all ;) I should have known, I rarely go with my first interpretation to begin with.

  9. Another great theme. My photo ishere. I'd never taken pics while flying until a couple weeks ago and was happy to see Aerial as the theme. Amazing what's out there in the world if you only take a moment to breathe it all in.

I thought that I would take a shot, (no pun intended), after seeing Sally's great hummingbird.
This is really a neat challenge, I will be looking forward to the new one.
    Thanks, Jules

  13. It's been a week to end all weeks, not only because the world is supposed to "end" tomorrow...

I've got all kinds of aerial shots, panoramic mountain views and a plethora of bird's eye shots of all things high in the sky; today, though, my thoughts are with a friend of mine who is a mountain guide on Denali and who is reaching even higher this month.

This friend is running 1,100 miles across Alaska to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. I've got beautiful aerial shots of Matt, but more importantly, I'm standing with him as he pounds the pavement for this excellent cause.

  14. I'm finally getting around to posting my aerial shots, although they were taken right on solid ground.

  15. Having no head for heights, and not having been in an aeroplane for many moons, I am passing on this one! But I am enjoying those of other camera clickers!
