Thematic Photographic 149 - Family

The next generation
London, ON
November 2010

They can go at it like cats and dogs, largely because they're such individually bright, focused kids. Yet when the chips are down, they're there for each other, and it makes my heart melt to see them figure it out for themselves.

They make for a crazy, chaotic household that's often noisy and unpredictable, but I can't imagine what life was like before we had them, nor would I want to. It's full, and it's full of meaning, because it's no longer about simply getting ourselves through the day. Rather, it's about getting them through the day, and preparing them for whatever the next day may serve up. And the next, and the next...

I'm tired just thinking about it. But I'd have it no other way.

Your turn: I'd like to explore family this week, and I'm hoping you'll join me along the way. Thematic Photographic rules, as such, are here. Otherwise, please leave a link in a comment to a family-themed pic you've posted somewhere, and let the sharing begin.

  7. No prejudice here, but they are beautiful! Yes they can drive us crazy, are expensive and loud, but life would be boring and lonely without them.

    Xoxo

  10. Gah! Late for the party again... Here's my contribution. Family is a spectacular theme. I might just run with this one all week.

I would add also, your kids look great! It's easy to see why your writing almost always has an air of happiness to it. It's like I can tell that you're smiling when you write, the way you can tell somebody smiles over the phone. With a picture like that, it's easy to see why.

    Cheers.

  11. Family it is! It took me a while to mull this one over- my thoughts (and photographs) on the subject are not traditional or conventional.

Love this shot of the kids! There's a strong bond between them that shines clearly, right through your lens and to the viewer.

  12. Beautiful photo Carmi - I love your family pride.

I have a family photo, sort of, to share with you here .

It is only one of my family - my middle child, on her way to high school commencement. There is nothing like graduation ceremonies to realize the truth in the statement that it takes communities to build children. It was a treat to appreciate so many families coming together to celebrate children moving into adulthood.

  14. I love the photos of your family and kids...
Unfortunately, my family is spread from Austria west to Nevada and I haven't had Nyssa around to photograph since Christmas. I have already used my parents for "well-aged"on their 60th anniversary. So, I decided on a family of a different nature.
