Thematic Photographic 156 - Red

You've got a fast car
Mahwah, NJ, July 2011

I once drove a red car. It wasn't a sports car by any stretch of the imagination. It was a Honda. Small, practical and reasonable. But its color somehow made it seem a little faster than it was, a little more memorable, a little hotter than its plebian hatchback origins would have suggested. Owning it helped me understand why some folks believe the only acceptable color for a Ferrari is red.

Of course, that was before I was married. Before you needed four doors to more easily get the munchkins and car seats into the back seat, before responsibility joined fun on the priority list of life. I haven't had a red car since, but that doesn't mean the color doesn't jump out at me on occasion.

Like here. And, hopefully, for the next week as we explore this life-affirming color together.

Your turn: Please post a red-themed pic on your blog, or find one already online. Leave a comment here letting folks know where to find it. Drop by other participants to share the photographic joy. There's no limit on how often you can participate - we encourage that kind of thing - and no limit on how many friends you drag in, too. Just enjoy the process and see what kind of redness pops up through your lens. Looking forward to seeing what y'all come up with! 2. And, I kid you not; the word verification is "redler." Oh, the irony!

So, with that introduction, here's my contribution:

  3. Oh, I forgot to mention that my word verification, "redler," was even colored red!

  4. A decade ago I bought a new Mustang. I had 3 criteria for it: manual transmission, 6 cylindar and it had to be red. The Ferrari isn't the only car that needs to be red.
But I don't own a red car right now, so I'll have to go with something else. Here's mine for this week.

  12. I love the angle of this shot - and amazingly, I actually have car shots for this week's theme - among others :)

  13. It's an old one, but the red on white drew my eye as soon as we turned the corner.

  16. Not as bright a red as yours - but I thought this building was appropriate, being both red brick and red stickered since our February earthquake.

  19. Carmi, it has been so long since I visited your blog -- that's not totally accurate. I've stopped in for a look but haven't been participating in Thematic Photographic for a loooong time. I've been full time wedding photographer for a local B & B that specializes in small, intimate weddings. It's been great experience but I've missed the photo shooting just for me. So, here I am, with a new blog and some new photos. The theme of "red" was the hook so I am playing along with this post. I'm a bit late for this week, but had a great time with it.
