What I really think of Apple...

Big day in techland yesterday as Apple reported its latest quarterly earnings (Q3 2012, if you're into that sort of thing.) I wrote this piece for Yahoo! Canada:
Apple earnings down on flat China sales
I'd love to hear what you think. Happy reading!

  1. I remember seeing a news show this past winter about an ipad factory in Japan where folks are not treated or paid well.
Perhaps the product being made by China's fierce global market competion has influenced sales there.

Apple stuff is very cool, but there are now more, less expensive alternatives on the market. They need more "Must have/ like nothing else" innovation to influence new buying.
China tho, does seem to have a chip on their shoulder... Prob a reverse engineering one-

  2. Seen at Atrios this week:

"It's okay to be a big company with a stable revenue and stable predictable dividends.

That used to be the norm."

referring to an article about Microsoft.

The headline of your article is misleading. the article itself says that Apple increased revenue, increased earnings, in fact increased their cash-on-hand by 7 billion dollars; but didn't meet the overheated expectations of analysts.

Look, I am an old guy, I remember when every one of those analysts used to predict Apple going out of business nearly every day, despite the fact that their customer base was among the most loyal.

I dunno if Apple is 'cool'. If it is, I want those kids to get offa my lawn. I am an architect and designer, and I like appreciate the designs, but mainly, the Apple products I use work for me. An elegantly designed, effective tool; that's for me!
