Apple iPhone 5 - and me

I'm a little indisposed today, part of my grand media experiment. You may have heard that Apple's introducing a new iPhone today. It's called the iPhone 5, and from the looks of it, it's the best iPhone ever.

What, this surprises you?

In all seriousness, it's a great phone. It'll sell millions. Folks will line up for days. Unfortunately, it isn't enough.

Maybe I'm dealing with the effects of a nasty cold that's walloped me this week, but I don't think all is peaches and sunshine in AppleLand. I'll expand more later. But for now, I'm juggling myself through a day where I'm spending more time on-air than off. And I'm hoping I don't start to sneeze or hack up a lung on-camera.

More in a bit. For now, I'd like to know what YOU think about Apple's new baby. Too much hype? Or just what consumers need?

I'll run down the media appearances later. For now, I'm camped out in CTV London's studios. And so far they're tolerating my interloper-ness. Nicest folks. Seriously.

  1. First of all - feel better! I'm just getting over the same thing you're going through and it zapped me!

Secondly - and maybe because I have no smartphone (till Sept 21st), and covet one, especially an iPhone (and am a new iPad owner), this looks super awesome to me! I'm looking forward to mobile browsing, tethering to my own iPhone instead of my kid's when I'm anywhere with my iPad, enjoying a touchscreen interface instead of wearing out the faces of every keyboard with my nails, and some of the cool iOS6 features.

I'm a newbie so it's a brand new shiny penny for me. Bright-eyed and will be reserving it on Friday..re-signing (and renegotiating) my contract by tomorrow, and zooming along the Apple-driven mobile highway by the 21st...

    Too exuberant? ;-)

  2. If I ever did get crazy enough to buy a sell phone, Carmi, would you recommend a iPhone or a Droid?

P.S. I'm sirius...I've never owned one. Maybe I should just try a plain old cellular model, first?

  3. yes, feel better !! I think i'm the only person on this planet that never had anything Apple. I have a stink normal Samsung flip phone (i'm mostly home anyway) a Sony Tablet and Reader and a Samsung and Sony (now hubbies) laptop :)

  4. I've liked the iPhones I've had, and don't see compelling reasons to entertain another phone. The new one is nice, keeping up with the competition and maybe staying a bit ahead of them. If I wasn't in the middle of my current contract on my iPhone 4S, I would definitely upgrade.

I do, however, wish we would see some memory bumps on these things. I have to use two iPods to hold my music library. if the iPhone or iPod Touch had been bumped to 128, I might be use them rather than my Classic.

  5. Good morning Carmy - first off, I too, hope you feel better! I have a nagging cough, and I know what it's like to have be "on" when you are not feeling your best.

I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed with the roll-out yesterday. I've been finding myself (choke) with a little envy for the Samsung Galaxy users.

I'm an iOS girl, however, so I'm tied to my iPhone fetish. I am not drinking the full glass of Kool Aid, however, because I'm a PC user at home (the husband is the Mac guy, as he was in broadcast and needed the audio engineering the Mac offered).

Like Zombie above said, why the heck haven't they doubled the 64 gig offering on the iPhone yet? I'm bumping up against that threshold often... It's annoying. I use my iPhone on trips a LOT, and commute every day for over an hour each way, so my phone is my lifeline and my entertainment for hours each day. I need it to be able to hold all my media, have a readable screen, and connect with my iPad seamlessly.

I'm feeling a little let down.

    That's my two cents.

  6. I think that most people are really attracted to Apple's products, whatever they release in the market always gets the people excited.
