A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

On the relevance of newspapers
"Trying to determine what is going on in the world by reading newspapers is like trying to tell the time by watching the second hand of a clock."
Ben Hecht
Ok, does that mean that we should not rely just on newspapers? if so, I agree.. But newspapers should open our curiosity to delve further, correct?? If the newspaper becomes obsolete, I will be heartbroken.. I am so use to starting my day by getting my paper off the driveway!.I still subscribe even tho I get a free edition online!.
I still prefer to hold a newspaper in my hands and take in the articles as I always have. Even the new 007 movie takes into account the virtues of some old school ways still being cool!
i take that quote as meaning...how do you know what is truth...or fiction?
the same holds true for going online...people will read something, and because it's online, they believe it to be true!
anyway...as far as the printed newspaper...some day...they will probably be 'no more'. i'll miss the ink on my fingers...and what will i use as packing material for fragile things?!

My dad was a reporter.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how the business will survive the internet.
And a lot of papers have become shells of their former selves, with so many owned by just a few corporations.
