One red leaf, ahead of its time

Not yet, little one

I found this single red leaf while walking the dog early Saturday morning. One oddball red leaf in the middle of so much green, a defiant middle finger to the normally established order.

Of course, I had to stop and shoot it, because you normally don’t see stuff like this in the middle of July. But we live in interesting times, and climate change means all sorts of things will begin sliding to different spots on the calendar - indeed, they already have.

And as change swirls around us, we can choose to either complain about it, or we can stop what we’re doing and drink it in. Because lamenting the things we cannot change strikes me as a waste of time and energy.

Observing it for what it is, in all its miniature, tucked-right-under-our-nose glory, seems like a better way to live.
