Finding corn by the side of the road

Soaking up the late afternoon sun

We live in the middle of some of the most productive agricultural land on the planet. So we're never that far from fields and farms teeming with life.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon spent looking for fall colors and our favorite milkshakes, we come across this corn field not far from St. Thomas. It sits beside the regional road that leads to Lake Erie, just across from Shaw's, where we coincidentally find those aforementioned shakes.

Lots of traffic flies by at near-highway speeds, but no one else stops to stare at the corn swaying in the strong autumn breeze.

Except for me, shooting across the road toward the edge of the field, trying to avoid getting too close to the edge lest I distract a speeding motorist. The things we do to get the shot.

The things we do to remember texture-filled afternoons in the unimaginably beautiful countryside that feeds us all.
