Golden hour forest

Taking a break

This tree may look empty and lifeless, but looks can be - and indeed are - deceiving.

Autumn's rains will soon give way to winter's snow, and this single tree is ready for whatever comes next, hunkered down amid the silence of the forest.

Come spring, the snow will melt, and its leaves will return. And while some may see it as a return to life, that ignores the unseen vibrancy playing out beneath the surface.

We have to trust it's there. And we have to promise - ourselves and others - to return to this spot in the middle of winter's worst to remind ourselves that life has a way of prevailing under any circumstance.

I'll be returning here when it snows. You're welcome to tag along when I do.
