Welcome back, old friend London, ON January 2017 This photo originally shared on Instagram |
On this particularly frigid January morning almost four years ago, the skies were just starting to put on a show as I slowly left campus on my way downtown. It’s one of the upsides of long Canadian winters: the timing works out perfectly for a spectacular show.
But only if we look up.
And on that morning, I looked up.
Fast-forward to 2020. Yesterday was winter solstice, the dawn of a new season and the shortest day of the darkest year. Every day from here on out gets longer. The angles of the light will also change. Brighter, tighter, more intense, warmer.
Look up, of course, but also look more closely. Appreciate the tones, the shades, the warmth.
Because even the darkest, coldest nights don’t stand a chance once the sun decides to show up. Just imagine what else we’d discover in empty early-morning parking lots if only we took the time to stop and look around.
