Where the water meets the woods London, ON December 2020 This photo originally shared on Instagram |
1 - We all go through phases, and I'm going through a walk-through-the-woods phase. Must be my damaged brain trying to compensate for all this pandemic weirdness.
2 - Looking back through my archives, I realize I had never really focused on landscapes in a sustained manner. Every once in a while, I'd shoot some, but I never really studied it, practiced it, or tried to learn the language of sizing up the great outdoors through itty bitty slivers of glass.
3 - Soon it'll be winter, so some of the woodsier areas nearby will no longer be as accessible as they are now. I'm getting in my walkabouts while I still can.
I've already learned a few things, namely how cathartic it can be to leave the world behind for a bit and let the mind wander. It's also ridiculously fun to return to the same spot over a period of days, weeks, or even months, and try to document how it's changing with the seasons, the weather, or even the light. There's always something new to see, some new way to interpret the landscape around us.
I'm not entirely certain I'm doing any of this right, but I am enjoying the hell out of simply getting out there and trying.
So that's what I'll keep doing. Thank you all for joining me for the journey.
