The not-so-dead tree stump

To most of us, the sight of a tree stump is one of sadness. Of endings. Of loss. Of lamenting a vanished past.

Indeed, that was my first thought when the wonderdog and I came across this particular example during a walk last summer.

But what if we flip the narrative around? What if we choose to focus on what this tree gave us when it was alive? Or the life it continues to support even after most of it has been cut down? What if we choose to look ahead with hope instead of behind with regret?

It’s a perspective thing, really, a choice we make about which lens to look through. That word: choice.

This time we’re talking about a tree stump. But it could be anything if we allow it.

So let’s allow it, then.
