I've only ever observed him from afar, never exchanging more than a friendly nod or smile as he passes. But he's been a regular enough fixture of the neighborhood that I can tell it's him even from blocks away.
He'd be walking no matter the weather, every day at roughly the same time, always the same route, always with that deliberately steady gait. But on this morning, the weather makes me reach for my camera before he disappears back into the murk from which he came.
I quietly wish for continued safe journeys for him as I trip the shutter and put the camera away.
