I’m doing more of that this summer: aiming for towns and villages and places a little further from home, stretching the rides a bit beyond my limits, testing out new roads and routes to get in a little more variety.
As I reflected on today’s route while pedalling home, I admitted to myself that picking one of the hottest days of an already-scorching summer probably wasn’t my best decision. It might have been wiser to stick closer to home and limit my exposure to the heat and humidity.
But when the map is beckoning with promises of a new adventure, it’s hard to push it off to another day. Sometimes we just have to pedal into the heat and see what we see.
And when we get to the turnaround point furthest from home, we take a weird photo. Just because.
