The heat and humidity under a scorching summer sun are tempered somewhat by winds so strong it’s a wonder the spiderweb hasn’t yet been blown away.
Yet it manages to hold its own, its battered strands flapping madly back and forth as the winds hum between the rusted steel beams, the spider nowhere to be seen.
I think to myself this is a masterpiece of natural engineering, a stubborn act of defiance amid overwhelming odds, an almost invisible example of life managing to find a way despite it all.
It’s almost perfect in its imperfection, and I imagine the master who crafted it returning soon to spin another chapter, another message to the universe that our stories aren’t over until we say they are.
And even then…
