Oxford and Adelaide London, ON July 2019 This photo originally shared on Instagram |
One of their most notable tricks is called the compression effect, and shooting down the length of a long road illustrates it rather nicely, where distant parts of the scene look larger than they otherwise would.
If you're a Londoner, this may look familiar. I was standing at the Adelaide/Oxford intersection looking west on Oxford toward Richmond, the old rail bridge, and way beyond, up the hill toward Cherryhill. And thanks to this optical effect, I had quite the photographic party on this otherwise drab stretch of sidewalk.
So much life is playing out in this scene. So many stories, all important to the individuals who lived them, all now tucked quietly into their respective histories.
I've got to do this again soon, as that was a rather enjoyable way to spend an hour or so on a sunny Saturday morning.
