Tanker? Art? Both.

Aircraft are filled with tiny details that grab the eye and speak to the soul.

Like this KC-135 Stratotanker. It was designed long before I was born, yet I still find myself staring intently at its wingtip as I slowly walk around it.

There’s just something so artful about things that are shaped by the laws of aerodynamics. Simple at first glance. Less so the longer we linger.

Back then, engineers penned planes by hand, on paper. I imagine what it must have looked like when the original designer sat down at a drafting table and got to work. If only they knew their work would span continents and decades.

Maybe those small details aren’t so small after all.
