It’s a narrow bridge, with tight sidewalks and no shoulders. So everyone crosses carefully, barely noticing the river below.
It’s a different story on the path that runs underneath the span, a quiet spot where pedestrians and cyclists can and do stop what they’re doing to take in the scene.
Which is where I find myself hitting pause as I pedal my way home. The thrum of life echoes through the concrete and steel above my head, but down here it’s a different story.
Two realities playing out within metres of each other, each group of actors completely unaware of the other. As I stare at the reflective waters, I wonder what would happen if more of us took the time to change where we stand every once in a while.
