Fire in the sky

For some reason, the clouds have been especially beautiful over the past few days. The cynic in me says it's the smog, but the romantic being that hovers over my other shoulder says I'm just getting weepy in my old age. While they duke it out, I'll just take the pictures.

I shot this one the other evening as I walked home from an errand. I noticed this formation reflecting the setting sun as I strolled the last few meters before getting to the house. I grabbed the camera off the kitchen table - it's always handy, wouldn't ya know - and ran back outside. These scenes tend to disappear quickly, and I didn't want to miss the magic.

Your turn: It's actually a two-parter:
  1. What are the first three words that come to mind as you see this?
  2. What will you photograph next?

  1. 1. OMG....what a great pic! (ok, so I went over the word limit, I'm known for that kind of thing!).

    2. How I wish I'd had a camera last night. Of course, I'm down here in Florida in hurricane land...last night the sky was plain out freaky. Sadly, I was at work.

    Hi Carmi....Michele sent me...this time!

  2. 1: Is that smoke?

2: Probably something to provide context to something I've only just now typed.

  5. 1. Run for cover!

    2. Probably some shots of the mountains in the Uniontown area.

  6. I noticed the clouds yesterday too. The rain finally cleared out and we were photographing a lighthouse. The clouds were beautiful. As far as the photo here goes, I first thought it was something from the the recent London terrorists attacks! I'm on vacation visiting my family in Mass. so I'm shooting lots of photos...What will be next? Most likely the beach or maybe my little nephews. Great post. Thanks for asking.

  8. I love it when clouds seem like they're on fire like that! :)

Frist three words? Clouds of fire?!

I might be going out for a drive later, so maybe my next photo will be of the Welsh landscape. Who knows?!

  9. Oooops, I hit the wrong key:

    #2 fire

    #3 smoke

Keep them coming, Carmi! Next I will photograph wedding flowers, probably. Michele sent me...this time.

  13. More than 3 words were my first thought seeing the picture: "I hope no one got hurt in that..."

Next photo I take will surely be of a cat...

  14. OK Carmi... I KNOW this is weird, but the first 3 words I thought of were

    LOVELY HAND PUPPET!

I'm SURE my next picture will be a pic of something strange and wonderful on the streets of NYC. Hope you are having a great weekend!

  15. The first thing I thought was actually 5 words:

    Horse Head Nebula Visits Earth

What will I photograph next? Well, it's abomidably hot today. Champs said we will take Sweet Girl to the local wading pool later today. I am hoping for some good shots there.

I am so glad you came to see my playground photo! I am not a photographer like you, though.. just a mom trying to make friends with her new digital camera (I got a Cannon PowerShot A85). You visited my blog, so by now you know that everything there is anonymous. This is my new challenge to myself; take wonderful pictures that convey the beauty and emotion of my family without showing full faces. Check in every so often to see how I do, OK?

  16. Hey Carmi, here via Michele!

First three words (okay, maybe THOUGHTS)
    1. Breathtaking
    2. Gorgeous
    3. It sort of looks like a big warrior-type guy.

    What will I photograph next?
I'm not much of a photographer...it will probably be a picture of my little heathens. :)

  17. 1. Fire, Hot, Dusk.
    2. I'm a sucker for post offices, so that is probably what I'll shoot next. Either that or an old pioneer cemetery near Pinto, Utah.

  18. Since my first post was more than 3 words ... I came back to....

Well, nevermind - I am here again ... believe it or not ;) I had to show my husband the photos you share.

Yes, Michele sent me back. :)

  20. I don't know if I can nail it in three words, but that formation is pretty freaky, almost Hogwartsian. J.K. Rowling would be proud.

  21. Michele sent me back, Carmi. I lied before, the next photo I took was of the odometer on my car when it turned to 100,000 miles! That was earlier today.

  22. 1. Fire, Rainstorm, and lovely
    2. Anything that catches my eye - and it could indeed be anything (most of my pics are unplanned, as you can probably tell).

  23. Wow, that is breathtaking. Great shot.
