Jammed, encore

Cherries forever
London, ON, April 2007 [Click to enlarge]

This isn't the first time I've taken on a jar of jam (see here and here.) It likely won't be the last, because images like this remind me why I love hanging out at the kitchen table.

The colors and textures of the food and fixins are too much to ignore, and the experience is enriched by the surrounding sound of an awakening house. Kids skitter back and forth to the fridge. The dog jingles as he shadows whoever's carrying the most tantalizing morsel. The smell of fresh brewed coffee hangs in the air.

It's another one of those fleeting in between moments I wish would never end. Whenever I'm lucky enough to have one of them, I try to remember it with a picture.

Your turn: How do you remember a memorable in between moment?

  1. When I see a jar that looks like that, I figure I have to lose eight pounds again.

    Here from Michele's today.

  2. Hi Carmi,

I was just responding to a post last night (actually, very early this morning) about in between moments. it was along the lines of the "silence in between the spaces," to which I transposed into the spaces in between the silence. It seemed to work for me, but then again I'm not too tightly wrapped!

    Michele sent me,

    Mike

  3. Over the years I have learnt to take 'mental photos' - I just can't share them with anyone....

I love jamjars - they look like jewels.....

Thank you for visiting - that's the worse bruise, there's also one on my wrist which is swelling up nicely.....

But I can still babysit :-)

  5. That's a great question, Carmi. Honestly, I'm not sure I do remember the in between moments. In fact, I don't think I've even noticed that in between moments exist. But now, with the pic of the jam jar and the gorgeous one of the wine glass stems, I think I'm going to pay some closer attention!

    Here from Michele's this time.

  6. Also here from Michele's this time.

In-between moments? *laugh* I write 'em up as fiction and turn them into blog fodder, also known in my world as an outtake!

I haven't done one featuring jelly yet. Hmm... Must think on this one.

  7. I had a great inbetween moment this morning. Both my kids pulled me out of bed to this morning to enjoy the imaginary breakfast they made for me, best I ever had!

    Hi, Michele sent me!

  8. Oh the horror! My first thought when viewing this pic was that it was Grape Jelly - the substance my mom used to combine with penicillin and spoon feed to me when I had mono as a kid. To this day, my stomach turns when I smell it. Cherry jelly, however, sounds lovely! ;-)

  9. I think that is why I take such random pictures....it is like I am trying to preserve this 15 months that my husband is missing with us.
I try to let my three year old take pics as well....his point of view is so interesting.

    happy saturday

  10. I reach for the camera everytime. My 'hold that pose' can be heard for miles whenever I see something wonderful, something amusing or something that just makes you sigh.

This is a great shot. Reminds me of my Nana's kitchen.

Thank you for sharing Carmi. :)

    Annie.

  11. Carmi, I love that you take pics of jam jars! It would never occur to me to do that, so I am glad that you do!

  12. Hey,

I am so glad I found your website. And I know exactly, exactly! what you mean by "in between moments".

I like the picture of the jar... no, I know that jar... I know exactly what it represents.

Have you ever tried combing some of your interests by the way? Like trying to take a Near-Infrared photo while doing a Full Combat Origami on a Trans-Atmospheric Flight?

    Enjoyed my visit.

  13. In between moments... I like to hibernate away from cats, kids and computers. Perhaps with a book... yes, my memory of reading in the old smokehouse comes back and I wish there were a way to duplicate that childhood moment again.

About leaving the lab... I'd really like to get back into the lab quick... being with aging parents 24/7 does to your brain the same thing as being with children under 3 for 24/7. There is also that pesky problem of not being independently wealthy and having a daughter in college and soon to be graduate school.

  14. Hi. Thanks for stopping by my place. I really enjoy your photography.

As for kayaks, I bought one and kept in my office for three months before I had the guts to bring it home.

    Cheers.

  17. It's in appreciating those in-between moments that we experience simple abundance on a daily basis. And I don't practice that nearly enough. Unlike most people, you don't seem to walk through life unconsciously, Carmi. I truly admire that.

  18. I would never have thought to take a photo of an empty jam jar. A great reflective meaning to ponder. I always hope to keep those in between momens in my memory. To capture them in photos, even better.

  19. Sticky, sweet, red and tasty. That is what this picture says to me along with 'get more jam!'.

I keep in-between moments in my head but I also take photos too.
