Translucent color

Sometimes, I take a picture because it is of a subject I hope to return to in future. To wit, my water cup. I drink water all day. The colder the better. It keeps me alert and, hopefully, somewhat healthy.
When I put it on the counter and it caught the sun, I knew it was something I wanted to remember. But I had no tripod. So the compromises resulted in an image with strong geometry, but somewhat iffy technicals.
I'll come back to this kind of composition in future. But for now, a slash of reflected green across a stainless steel surface will have to do.
Your turn: Reflected colors. Do they appeal to your eye? Why/why not?
They do appeal if they are green. It is my favorite color. Sometimes reflected colors are prettier to look at than the real thing. They are less dense, less saturated, more ethereal. I like them, and you, Carmi! Michele sent me this time.
ReplyDeletethey appeal to my three year old....tonight as we were doing the bedtime routine the sun was setting. My front door has a big Texas star made out of beveled glass on it. When the sun hits it just right it makes rainbows in the entry way.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how hard it is to tear a three year old away from a rainbow....he liked that he could make it go on his foot!
Any reflections appeal to me. It is such a treat for the eyes! i like this shot Carmi...and while I always like technical photos, there is something to be said for just snapping the pic.

ReplyDeleteI think there's something about reflected colors that reaches into our soul...like the stained glass in a large cathedral...it's pure beauty. There is nothing of substance in a reflection, so there's nothing to destroy or cheapen. It just is.

Bother I have lost my comment. I love light and colour and am the fuzzy technical one - not you. I have never used a tripod - just another thing to carry and lose. On my windows facing the sun I have crystals and get endless pleasure from the reflections.

How dense I am this morning...my first thought was "What is wrong with the water up there???" It took a moment to register that the cup is green. And a very nice shade of green, too...
ReplyDeleteI typically like reflected colors, especially when they prism...I don't know why, but I can sit and stare at them for a long, long time.

NIce shot. I thought it was mono with spot green to begin with. Clever use of the stainess steel.
ReplyDeleteI smile when I see your comment about technical. One needs a lot of hours in the day to do everything 'just so' and sometimes a simple snap brings 99% of the effect.

I like how the green illuminates the middle of the shadow. It's almost as if it has some dedicated source of power.

I love reflected colors and shadows of color through translucent glass or flower petals and such, hence my tulip photo.
ReplyDeleteIt is all about looking at the mundane things of life in an extraordinary way. It's our world, it's here, not a lot we can do to change the big picture so why not manipulate the small things.
The other day, my daughter painted her toenails with a gorgeous shade of red. Like most kids, instead of putting the bottle back where she got it, she put it on the sill of the sunroom. I left it there because the reflection is just awesome when the sun hits it. Nice post
ReplyDeleteDefinately! There's something about light filtering through colored glass that I find very stimulating. Especially the gem colors of ruby, saphire, emerald, ambers, and even those reflected from a fiery opal.

ReplyDeleteThis photo reminds me of the musical WICKED, because it plays such a strong part in the theme and symbolism... that being different is okay. That's what I think of when I look at this. Very appealing.
