Wordless Wednesday - So juicy

OJ...the drink, not the Simpson
London, ON, March 2009

About this photo: we're finishing off the Thematic Photographic drink theme (click here for more) and preparing for a new theme that goes live tomorrow. What will it be? Read on, McDuff...
I'm so not a morning person that I use every trick in the book to segue into the waking day with a little bit of happiness. This strategy includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the following:
  • Lighting - I sit in our south-facing kitchen with the table bathed in sunlight to chase the shadowy cobwebs of sleep out of my head.
  • Drinking - orange juice. Because anything this color can't be anything BUT bright and happy.
  • Listening - to the morning sounds of the house: kids pattering around, dog talking, kettle boiling...
  • Discussing - anything and everything with my wife and kids. Morning banter has a unique rhythm to it, doesn't it?
Sometimes I also pull out the camera and try to take a picture that somehow captures the spirit of this transitional time.

Your turn: How do you do mornings?

Oops, almost forgot: Our next Thematic Photographic theme will be:

Drab

Check back here Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. ET, as I'll be posting the first entry for this theme at that time.

  1. Mornings:

I hear a loud clanging in my sleep. CRAP! it's not in my sleep, it's the %$#@*?%$ alarm clock.
I throw it against the wall, which gets the dogs barking, which wakes up the wife, which gets the cat howling.
I stumble down stairs to get coffee which by the Blessings of Odin has already brewed. It hits my gut like The Hammer of Thor, providing a moment of relief.
I get my bottle of Bushmills out from behind the toilet tank and take a guzzle. Sweet, sweet nectar.
I get dressed and lumber to the car with a cup of whisky and coffee to start my day. Soon I will be driving my rounds on the school bus.
I swear one of these days I'm going to take that thing off a bridge.

  2. LOL....drab? I can probably do that!!

Carmi, I don't do mornings at all if I can help it. I've been sleeping later and later these days. I'm up too late and in bed so late in the a.m. that I have my days and nights mixed-up. Good thing I'm not working these days!

  3. Funny you should ask.
I got woken up this morning to the sound of the freakin' Google van driving by.
If you go on Google Earth and come across a picture of an angry red-faced man barreling down the driveway, bathrobe flapping in the breeze, waving a snow shovel at the camera, that would be me.

  4. I greet the morning at the early hour of 4:45 a.m. I usually start the morning with a cup of coffee and knit a few rows of something before heading out to work. I am a morning person and personally love morning.

  5. Once the weather gets a little warmer, I plan to start my day off with an hour-long nature hike.

By the time I'm done walking, I'm in town! Huzzah!

  6. What I intend my mornings to be and what they have been lately live in completely different universes.

I am working on mastering "early to bed early to rise" ... which lately looks like staying up til at least 1 a.m. and getting up at 8 a.m.

But soon, I'll be a morning wonder.

I wonder when that will be? :)

    Ready to do "drab".

  8. With coffee or tea and a hot shower. Then I'm mostly human. The orange juice looks so good. Maybe tomorrow I'll opt for some of that instead. :)

  12. Lol at the Google Orwellian Opel comment :-) If you have a peek at www.the-register.co.uk you'll hopefully see El Reg's take on Google Earth. They're not too impressed, as you can probably tell by them calling the picture taking vehicle an Orwellian Opel.

My mornings - staying in bed until I can't possibly stay any longer. Snatching a bit of a glass of water. Nibbling on a biscuit or two. Navigating my way through rush hour traffic while rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

  13. Oops - I've been giving bad information out again :

www.theregister.co.uk for the story on the Orwellian Opel, no hyphen in the middle.

  14. I love the way you captured the morning light with the juice.

  15. Coffee and blogs. Or wrapped up in a blanket in the recliner pretending to watch the morning news as I fall back asleep.

Perhaps if I had a sunny window and a glass of orange juice, I would be a happier greeter of the morning?

I'm working on this 'drab' assignment. Apparently I'm not as negative as some people might suppose, because I'm having trouble coming up with drab subjects!
