I'm going to bet that this guy had no idea his picture was being taken. I'm also going to bet that he was probably rendered temporarily blind by an apparent explosion of Jello-green brilliance.
I've never been much of a party animal, so I haven't spent huge amounts of time being bathed by laser light filtered through fog machines while dance music assaults my eardrums with the subtlety of a Hummer H1 churning through the dunes on a protected stretch of seashore. Yet I found myself entranced by the scene and wondered if it was even remotely possible to somehow paint it on a memory card.
Short answer: Yes, it is possible.
Long answer: I need to party a little more. Although I've never felt I needed to eat, drink and be merry to, you know, actually be merry, there's a certain coolness associated with tossing yourself onto the dance floor and just enjoying the moment. I won't be making a nightly habit of it, of course, but as an occasional escape, I suspect it'll be good for the old soul.
Your turn: Why we party. Please discuss.
One more thing: I know you've all been having so much fun with this week's candid theme, but all good things must eventually come to an end. New theme, sepia, goes live Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern. If you've got any residual candidness left, click now or not-quite-forever hold your peace.
Oh, what a great shot!
ReplyDeleteI haven't partied since college, but I'd say it is to feel a part of something happy and 'happening'.
Great. Now I'm thirsty! ;)
We party because it takes us back to when we were young and carefree
ReplyDeleteThat looks like I want to feel at a party, Carmi :)

That is an awesome shot!
ReplyDeleteWe party because we can.
ReplyDeleteUntil we can no more.
And then we still party although it causes us pain.
And that makes us feel alive.
....nice shot...
because we all need difference, excitement, something to take us out of the normal, something to look forward to...

What a great shot, love this one Carmi! People party for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that it relieves our inherent uptightness in a social environment.
ReplyDeleteI do love to dance, whether I'm partying or not.
wow that is a cool shot...i would have totally not got the aperature (or some other camera word) right and it would looked like christmas lights taken with a polaroid. they turn out terrible.BTW...
ReplyDeletewe party because we all need to celebrate more...
some of us *use the booze* to help us get ready to party...
we party because we need the interaction with others, but mostly because it is fun...

stupid stuff i see and hear
First..great shot..
ReplyDeleteSecond, stepping out of our comfort zones and just letting go is a must and just down right enjoyable.. Last time I really danced (in public, do it at home all the time) was on a cruise to Mexico. The lights, music, vibrations of the other dancers was just an awesome experience..
So I say Carmi, dance my brother, dance:-)
Great capture! I love the 'Exit' sign glowing through the greeness :)
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I suspect we party for different reasons. For me it's an antidote to all that professionalism I have to portray all week at work. While that is 'me' the other side of me has to be let out of the cage sometimes too!
Love that photo! The rays of that light pouring over that guy... I know the reason we party is to lighten our mood especially if we are in times of dilemma, stress, sadness... Its a good distraction but inevitably we have to come back to reality and deal w/it..
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and so apt (for me) 'coz i just spent the weekend in Vegas! Why do we party? I dont know about others but for me it breaks the routine every now and then!
